Overview
A logistics specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing the flow of goods from procurement to delivery, by overseeing activities like transportation planning of products, warehousing, and customs clearance, ensuring timely and accurate product delivery to customers while optimizing cost and efficiency within the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
· Transportation planning: Receiving customers’ orders and arranging shipping methods, selecting carriers, negotiating fright rates and scheduling deliveries to meet customers deadlines.
· Shipment Tracking: Monitoring the movement of goods through the supply chain, updating tracking information and resolving any delivery issues. shipments may be imports or exports from Canada, Germany or Mexico to /from the US.
· Customs Compliance: Managing customs documentation, ensuring compliance with import/export regulations, and coordinating with customs brokers when necessary.
· Cost Analysis: Identifying cost-savings opportunities within logistics operations, analyzing fright costs and optimizing logistics processes to improve efficiency.
· Vendor Management: Building relationships with suppliers, negotiating pricing and delivery terms, and managing supplier performance.
· Reporting and Analysis: Generating reports on key logistics metrics like delivery times and shipping cost to identify areas of improvement.
· Problem-Solving: Identifying and resolving logistics challenges such as delays, damaged goods and unexpected disruptions.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Strong organizational and planning skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various departments and vendors.
· Proficiency in logistics software and systems for inventory management, tracking and reporting.
· Understanding of supply chain principles and best practices.
· Analytical skills to identify trends and make data-driven decisions.
· Knowledge of customs regulations and international trade procedures when applicable.
· Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and transportation management systems (TMS)
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree with 2 years’ experience or no degree with 5 years’ experience.
