POSITION SUMMARY:
The Operator 3 is responsible for setting up the cutting machine and related equipment, verifying management cards, conducting part checks, and maintaining detailed documentation. This role requires a keen eye for detail, effective communication, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities:
Line Setup:
- Set the cutting machine, edge trim knives, and guide rollers per reference sheets.
- Ensure the grinder is working and not clogged; bags should not be full.
Management Cards:
- Verify management cards are correct and quantities are adequate for the production.
- Check this at the start of every shift, even if the line is running.
Part Check:
- Confirm correct part is running, check length and width, and inspect both sides of each board.
- Measure at least 1 out of every 10 pieces and perform scut checks on 1 out of every 20 pieces.
- Refer to the defect board for defects and ask for help if unsure.
- If more than 3 bad parts in a row, hit the buzzer for assistance.
Paperwork:
- Complete the production report and note any defects.
- Match defect sheet and production report numbers exactly.
- Do not leave the line until paperwork is complete; ask for help if needed.
Housekeeping:
- Maintain 5S/2S standards at the workstation before leaving the shift.
- Sweep around the loading table and pick up any trash in the area.
- Neatly stack scrap into silo bins and place startup rolls in the gaylord box.
Communication:
- Wait for incoming Operator 3 before starting paperwork.
- Provide detailed shift reports, including any problems or abnormalities.
- Show any new or abnormal defects to incoming operators.
Other Duties:
- Perform any other tasks assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED with 24 years of related experience.
- Attention to detail and ability to detect and address defects.
- Strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of production equipment and processes.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

While performing this job, the employee will stand/walk almost exclusively during shift (except meal/breaks); required to use manual dexterity (hands/fingers) and hand/eye coordination to operate equipment and place/cut/guide/assemble materials and parts; read words and numbers; frequently required to stoop/bend and use upper extremities to exert moderate pulling/pushing force both laterally and up/down; on occasion lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, normal color and peripheral as well as depth perception. Required personal protective equipment must be worn at all times in the production area where temperature extremes may often be encountered.
