Business Development Director
Reporting to the CEO, the Business Development Director will set, guide, and oversee the strategy for all membership activities, initiatives, and programs. The Business Development Director will oversee direct retention efforts and is responsible for increasing engagement with stakeholders and ultimately accountable for selling and retaining new chamber memberships, investors, and sponsorships in Central Florida. This position will ensure that the Melbourne Regional Chamber is viewed as the primary business membership organization on the Space Coast.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Execute goals and objectives of the Melbourne Regional Chamber’s Partnership & Retention Plan.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive membership pipeline from new sales to stewardship and retention to create a vibrant, diverse, and profitable chamber membership that represents the best of the Space Coast.
- Coordinate sales of sponsorships development of the annual Sponsorship Guide with Director of External Affairs.
- Lead and mentor a team of business development professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Coordinate ongoing training, professional development, and team-building activities to ensure peak operational efficiency.
- Cultivate a departmental and organizational culture focused on effective CRM usage and data analysis to drive decision-making.
- Create and manage programs and opportunities for collaboration that enhance member value and engagement.
- Provide insights on membership and marketing materials to ensure alignment with Chamber membership goals.
- Represent the Chamber at community events, associations, and boards/committees to promote its mission and develop leads.
- Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Develop strategies to increase member engagement, participation, and satisfaction.
- Ensure accurate development department documentation of sales and sponsorship activities.
- Attend monthly Board of Director meeting and assigned committees and council meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of progressive sales, development, community outreach; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated success in securing memberships, donations, sponsorships, or major gifts.
- Competency in effective use of CRM systems. Expertise in the use of sales metrics in managing pipeline, activity, closing ratios, and other relevant sales activities.
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing strategy and implementing plans and campaigns.
- Ability to build meaningful relationships with all stakeholders.
- Team-oriented with a charismatic and outgoing personality.
- Proficiency in data analysis and performance metrics.
- Known as a connector and an implementer who thrives on managing and prioritizing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to work independently; enjoys creating and executing new ideas and initiatives.
- Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.
- Willingness and ability to attend evening, morning, and weekend events.
- Working knowledge of chamber of commerce operations and purpose.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: $50,000/yr - $65,000 commensurate with experience
- Bonuses: $12,000/yr
