POSITION SUMMARY
MELE Associates, Inc. is seeking to add a Security Assistant to our national security and intelligence team, supporting a key customer within the Department of Energy (DOE). The Security Assistant will be responsible for a multitude of security related administrative and clerical duties such as operating in-house transcription software, analyzing security issues, as well as processing personnel security cases and visitor control.
Essential Functions
The security Assistant position will provide clerical and administrative assistance of the day-to-day personnel security operations at DOE such as screening and reviewing official personnel security documentation and files. Essential duties may include:

The Security Assistant will be responsible for a multitude of security related administrative and clerical duties such as operating in-house transcription software, analyzing security issues, as well as processing personnel security cases and visitor control.
Essential Functions
The security Assistant position will provide clerical and administrative assistance of the day-to-day personnel security operations at DOE such as screening and reviewing official personnel security documentation and files. Essential duties may include:
- Provide analysis on well-defined security questions, issues, and conditions.
- Manage standardized applications as well as established variations in security procedures and regulations regarding processing personnel security cases.
- Maintain electronic data an utilize database, word processing, spreadsheets, and other common office software applications.
- Perform a range of standard/technical/clerical tasks including basic screening and analysis of security issues.
- Provide support, analysis, ad research into complex problems and processes relating to personnel security.
- Assist in maintaining information in the related databases for the personnel security program, including the Clearance Access Tracking System (CATS), and Central Personnel Clearance Inex (CPCI).
- Reviewing reciprocal information in Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) system such as PIPS/CVS and DISS.
- Support data collection, review, analysis, and tracking of personnel security clearance activities and shall process all documentation from origination of a case folder related to requests for initial investigations and re-investigations.
- Review incoming reports of investigations and other security information received from various investigative agencies and other sources.
- Provide timely notification of cancelled investigations to investigative agencies; clearance actions to requesting offices; and assisting in terminations of clearances.
- Process verbal and written requests for clearance verifications in Headquarters related cases.
- Work on complex problems and provide solutions.
- Advise supervisors of potential security related and controversial matters.
- Coordinate with other DOE personnel as required to surface, develop, and resolve various issues encountered.
- Review and analyst requests for matters involving security clearances.
- Maintain electronic and hardcopy logs, including the scanning and uploading of documentation.
- Update and audit electronic workflow tracking programs.
- Upload all official documents into the defined system of record, management, workflow, or tracking system.
- All other duties assigned.
- High School Diploma
- 1-3 years’ experience in a personnel security related program.
- An active DOE Q clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
- 5-7 years of experience in personnel security or related field
SALARY
- Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. The salary range for this position is 60-70k
