What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer position at Melvindale Police Department?
APPLICANTS MUST AT TIME OF APPLICATION AND TIME OF HIRE:
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Possess a valid Michigan Operators license and meet minimum driving requirements.
- Have completed two (2) years of credits from accredited college or university (i.e. 60 semester hours, or Associates degree from an accredited institution), or have two years of sworn Police Officer experience in the last three years.
- Have successfully completed the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards Training requirements or currently enrolled in a Michigan recognized MCOLES licensed standard Police Academy.
- Possess the valid Commission on Law Enforcement Standards Certification, in reading, writing, and the Physical Skills Test Battery.
- Applicants must submit/attach a cover letter and resume at time of application.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
- Starting base salary is $60,000 with $2,500 increments every six months for 4 years. Top out of $80,000.
- January 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026 top out changes to $83,500.
- January 1, 2027 - December 31,2027 top out changes to $87,000.
- 13 Paid Holidays
- Uniform and Gun Allowance Totaling $1700/Annually
- Up to four-year lateral experience pay.
- 401 retirement (5% employee 10% city) with option of 457B match up to 5%. Medical / Dental benefits, Blue Cross / Blue Shield.
- 12 hour shifts once minimum staffing is met
