Job Summary:
A Purchasing Manager is responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies, tracking metrics, negotiating deals, and managing vendors. They collaborate with stakeholders, forecast market trends, and ensure clear requirements documentation. Their role involves analyzing costs, mitigating risks, and determining optimal delivery quantities and timings.
They develop and implement purchasing strategies, maintain relationships with vendors, and negotiate contracts to get the best deals.
They also work in tandem with inventory control and sales to forecast supply and demand, ensuring that their organizations always have necessary items in stock without unnecessarily tying up capital in inventory.
They are also responsible for analyzing market trends and future product needs.
They manage and lead the purchasing staff team with their buying activities, accuracy on purchasing correct product needed and sourcing. They supervise the department’s procurement process, and track order deliveries to prevent delays.
They may additionally be involved in resolving discrepancies related to invoices and delivery receipts, ensuring adherence to budget, and mitigating risks related to supply chain disruptions.
You should have strong leadership capabilities, negotiation skills, and analytical abilities. You should be familiar with sourcing and vendor management, possess business sense, and be proficient in gathering and analyzing data. Additionally, you should have decision-making skills and be proficient in vendor management software.
Responsibilities
- Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies.
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
- Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation.
- Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.
- Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
- Assess, manage and mitigate risks.
- Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers.
- Determine quantity and timing of deliveries.
- Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
- Conduct performance reviews of staff.
Requirements and skills
- Proven working experience as Purchasing Manager, Agent or Officer
- Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
- Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
- A knack for negotiation and networking
- Working experience of vendor management software
- Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures.
- Solid judgement along with decision making skills.
- Strong leadership capabilities
- Experience in supply chain management, logistics or business administration.
