The Manager of Training & Development will play a vital role in advancing MEMIC’s culture of learning and development initiatives across several critical areas including the implementation and ongoing delivery of company-wide corporate training, leadership in organizational development and companywide strategy roll out, departmental skill gap analysis and problem resolution, mentorship and career progression. This role will champion the growth of both individual contributors and leaders through skillfully delivered learning experiences. This position will be based in Portland, Maine.

  • A strong emphasis on overseeing, implementing, and delivering effective corporate training programs, management development initiatives, and professional skill-building workshops through application of adult learning principles. Partner closely with business leaders and subject matter experts to develop and facilitate learning experiences that build critical workforce and leadership competencies across all organizational levels.
  • Partner with the CHRO, Director of T&TD, HR Team and key “change leaders” to design, develop and deploy change agility and navigation strategies to support organizational change initiatives (e.g., system, process, and people), including communication plans, training programs, and team member engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Design & Ops manager to co-design corporate training curriculum. Understands how to build skills and take a multi-generational approach to learning.
  • Manage and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor a team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into actionable training programming.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in Talent Development: explore and test innovative ideas and solutions to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of leading teams and development initiatives, relevant to facilitation, corporate training, career development, and coaching required.
  • Experience in instructional design & learning strategies preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in learning & development and coaching preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain required certifications in learning and development.
  • Strong knowledge of training evaluation techniques and metrics.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • A curious mindset focused on continuous improvement, actively seeking, and incorporating feedback to refine your approach.
  • Shows capability to establish clear expectations, delegate effectively, and maintain accountability while fostering a positive, collaborative environment. Can prioritize team needs while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates strong emotional intelligence and ability to build trust-based relationships.
  • Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of property and casualty insurance is a plus.
