What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor - Laboratory - Days - FT - Biloxi Location position at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport?
Assumes the overall responsibility for the technical administration and operation of a laboratory area (chemistry/special chemistry, urinalysis/serology, microbiology, blood bank, hematology/coagulation) or shift (evenings, nights). Performs clinical diagnostic/serological testing to aid the physicians and clinical care team in the diagnosis/treatment of the patient.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Must have a BS degree in Medical Technology or equivalent from a NAACLS accredited institution. Can have a BS degree in another science field and hold certification as required.
Licensure: Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology - MT(ASCP), or as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by The National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel - CLS(NCA), or equivalent certification as an MT.
Experience: At least three (3) years of clinical experience as a medical technologist.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Must know the theory and practice of medical technology/ histology. Must be able to operate and perform troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment. Must be able to do manual procedures if needed. Must be able to coordinate a department or area in the laboratory/blood bank. Must have good people skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Some, as above.
Licensure: Advanced certification in a specialty area from ASCP or NCA.
Experience: Some experience in a laboratory supervisory position.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Able to perform moderate to advanced troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment. Knowledge and training on new equipment. Computer experience. Advanced knowledge of proficiency testing, quality control, preparation of procedure manuals, new testing in area of expertise.
