The essential job responsibilities of the Safety and Training Specialist are to organize, prepare and conduct safety and field training programs/technical instruction to include the operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, under the guidelines of the Entry Level Driver Trainer (ELDT) mandate.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform the Safety Training Specialist role, you must:
- Have an Associate degree in General Technology or Industrial Technology or Vocational Technical Education or Engineering Technology with a major in Industrial Safety plus 4 years of journeyman Heavy Equipment Operator or have a high school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) with 8 years' experience as Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Operator depending on area need.
- Have a minimum of two years' experience operating a CMV requiring a CDL of the same (or higher) class, or the same endorsement and two years' experience as a Behind the Wheel CMV instructor
- Successfully complete NIMS Training within 1 year of entering job
- Successfully complete the Tennessee Third Party Commercial Driver License Examiner training and Certification program within one year of entering job
Physical Working Conditions: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment.
