Background
Memphis River Parks Partnership works with and for the people of Memphis to trigger the transformative power of the Mississippi. We believe a better Memphis begins at the riverfront and a better riverfront begins with each team member.
The Partnership is a not-for-profit operation funded by the City of Memphis, contributions, and an array of earned revenue streams from parking, cruise ships, park rentals and food and beverage.
The organization operates by Management Agreement with the City of Memphis and has responsibility for developing, managing and maintaining five miles of riverfront. The riverfront includes 11 parks, multiple boat docks, the building at Beale Street Landing with 9000 square feet under roof, a five-mile bike/ped trail, fountains, an amphitheater, a museum, food and beverage operations, a walk bridge over the harbor, a marina, and a bike/ped bridge over the Mississippi, among other assets.
The Partnership has built an early version of a bike/ped trail and a $60 million signature Tom Lee Park designed by world-renowned design firms Studio Gang and SCAPE, and currently underway is the restoration of a six-block historic Cobblestone Landing.
Lead Park Ranger, Field Operations
Purpose: To ensure an exceptional visitor experience at Mississippi River Parks by maintaining a welcoming, well-tended, clean, safe, and fun environment.
Reports to: Manager of Field Operations
Pay Rate: $17-20/hr. – Part-time/Full-time
Responsibilities:
- Keep the parks neat, well-tended, and litter-free.
- Assist in developing and providing schedule two weeks in advance for River Parks Ranger staff that provides adequate coverage during all hours of operations and special events
- Ensure reporting of hours worked for River Parks Ranger staff is timely and accurately reported for payroll purposes
- Act as resource for other Rangers; Delegate assignments as appropriate
- Consult with Manager of Field Operations when appropriate and is available in his/her absence
- Provide role model for how Rangers are to perform successfully in role
- Create a welcoming environment in the Park by greeting all visitors in a warm, friendly manner
- Perform specific tasks based on assignment and skills
- Maintain vigilant attitude; anticipate adverse situations and seek assistance from appropriate internal and/or external resources
- Adhere to internal and external health and safety guidelines
- Provide stewardship and protection of physical space
- Act as information source for visitors and other staff as needed
- Keep park areas and approaches free of litter
- Report maintenance or structural needs to appropriate staff using reporting mechanism provided
- Cooperate with and assist other team members throughout the Partnership
- Ensure a quality and positive visitor experience consistent with the Partnership brand
- Communicate positive enthusiasm for the Partnership and the parks to visitors and coworkers
- Assist/attend special events when appropriate/assigned
- Represent Memphis River Parks with clean, well groomed appearance wearing appropriate uniform daily
- Possess a working knowledge of other Ranger jobs and performance in those roles when designated or appropriate
- Perform daily activities in efficient manner with initiative and in compliance with policies and procedures provided
Qualifications:
- Be a do-whatever-it-takes-to-get-the-job-done type person.
- Able to assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling and reporting of hours in timely and accurate manner with attention to detail
- Sustained outstanding performance as Ranger at Memphis River Parks or similar experience
- Understanding of scheduling and reporting of hours
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Capable of problem solving using policies and procedures to support decision making
- Physical ability to perform assigned job, bend, kneel, step, stoop, lift 50lbs.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret directions, safety manuals, and simple correspondence
- Capable of navigating park grounds by various means of transportation, walking, motorized and nonmotorized vehicles
- Able to use and maintain equipment in safe manner and according to routine maintenance standards
- Capable of performing tasks independently and in groups
- Abie to communicate with clarity and precision
- Available to work variable schedules
- Supervisory or team lead experience desirable
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must Pass Drug Screening
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
