Job Title: Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator,

Full-time, Shift working, On-site and Community.

(Eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness; 100% health insurance coverage provided.)

Reports to: Dual reporting to the Development Director and Marketing Director.
Hours per week: Full-Time (40 hours)

Exempt: No

Work Authorization United States (Required).

Successful candidates must pass a Background Check upon hire.

Position Summary

The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator will play a key role in supporting MHA-WVR's mission by recruiting, training, and managing volunteers while developing and implementing outreach programs that foster community engagement and organizational visibility. This position operates under the joint oversight of the Marketing and Development departments, ensuring that volunteer efforts and outreach initiatives align with MHA-WVR's fundraising, community engagement, and programmatic goals. The Coordinator will serve as a liaison with the public to build meaningful partnerships with community stakeholders and grow communities' knowledge of the agency's services and resources, supporting MHA-WVR's work across 11 counties in North Central Indiana.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Volunteer Management:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and training processes.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify volunteer needs and opportunities across MHA-WVR's prevention, intervention, and crisis stabilization programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation, hours, and performance.
  • Plan and execute volunteer recognition programs to acknowledge contributions.
  • Support volunteer engagement for signature events, including Mocktail Monday for Mental Health and Gift Lift.

2. Community Outreach and Engagement:

  • Represent MHA-WVR at community events, health fairs, and partner gatherings to increase visibility.
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials in collaboration with the Marketing team.
  • Manage outreach-related social media content and website updates.
  • Organize and coordinate community-focused events and initiatives, such as participation in Junior Achievement Finance Park and mental health awareness activities.

3. Program Development and Evaluation:

  • Identify opportunities to expand volunteer engagement across MHA-WVR’s programs.
  • Collaborate with staff to implement initiatives supporting organizational goals, such as expanding Let's Talk and Too Good for Drugs programs.
  • Track and analyze outreach activities to assess impact and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare regular reports on volunteer contributions and outreach activities to assist with grant applications, donor reports, and internal evaluation.
  • 4. Administrative and Development Support:
  • Maintain and update volunteer databases and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director to identify volunteer roles that support fundraising and donor relations.
  • Assist with sponsor recognition and community engagement efforts following events like Mocktail Monday.
  • Contribute to annual development reports and grant applications, particularly regarding outreach and volunteer engagement metrics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 1-3 years of experience in volunteer management, outreach, marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse community audiences.
  • Proven organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRM/database management.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including supervising and supporting volunteers.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting to various community groups.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.

Physical Requirements and Environment:

  • To accomplish the essential functions of the position, one must be physically able to frequently and routinely:

o Walking short distances

o Bending, stooping, twisting

o Reaching above and/or below the shoulder

o Handling/grasping documents or office equipment

o Sitting and/or standing for short or extended periods of time

  • Clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in person and/or on the telephone.
  • Vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data
  • Repetitive motions for computer equipment use
  • Requires exertion of force of 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and/or 5 pounds continuously to lift/carry/move objects, files, and documents
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment
