What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Coordinator for Permanent Supported Housing position at Mental Health Association Inc?
The Mental Health Association, is hiring immediately for a Housing Coordinator. The Housing Coordinator in the Permanent Supported Housing program will work with youth and young adults aged 18 – 24 who have a disability and need support obtaining and maintaining independent subsidized housing.
Position’s Essential Functions
Support youth and young adults to:
- Gather necessary documentation to obtain housing
- Find suitable housing by completing online applications, contacting landlords
- Maintain housing through advocacy and mediation
- Participate in services to support recovery by providing referrals, connections to mental health, substance use providers as necessary
- Learn independent living skills by teaching, role modeling
- Participate actively in their community
- Address health related concerns
- Achieve goals related to employment and education
- Obtain all appropriate benefits
- Achieve sustainable income
Additional functions:
- Complete documentation requirements including assessments, progress notes, data entry
- Transport as needed
- Complete thorough housing inspection to ensure safety and suitability.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Valid driver’s license, sufficient automobile insurance, acceptable driving record, and a safe reliable vehicle during working hours.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, prioritize tasks, take initiative, follow through, and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Good oral, written, computer, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to the changing needs of the program participants.
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, caring, and compassion.
- Must be able to pass and maintain certifications in medication administration (MAP), CPR, and first aid.
- Must be at least eighteen years old.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Requires previous experience working with people with disabilities.
- Previous experience helping individuals obtain housing preferred
- Bilingual preferred
- Candidates with lived experience of homelessness preferred
