Job Summary:
This is a full-time position in Mental Health Association's Self-Help Drop In Center: a program designed to assist persons with situational crisis, and to provide resources that increase one's ability to manage crisis and avoid unnecessary levels of higher levels of care.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)
- Provide Peer Support Services. Peer Support services are individualized and recovery-focused that promote individuals to manage their own recovery process. Interventions of Peer Support Services emphasize personal safety, self-worth, confidence, and growth, connection to the community, boundary setting, planning, self-advocacy, personal fulfillment, development of social support, and effective communication
- Engages individual in a personal, supportive manner, creating relationships that emphasize wellness and recovery.
- Provides individual and/or group support services.
- Addresses mental health concerns and behaviors.
- Empowers participants to be self-advocates in their own lives.
- Collaborates with community resources and makes referrals as necessary.
- Maintains appropriate documentation in a timely manner consistent with department requirements and HIPAA regulations.
- Adheres to agency policies and department procedures.
- Attends required meetings.
- Supports an organizational culture of being culturally sensitive and trauma informed.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma/GED equivalency.
- Experience and knowledge of the public mental health system.
- Experience working as a Peer/Youth/Family Specialist preferred.
- Must have either a provisional peer certification (and obtain permanent certification within one year of hire) or have peer certification. Certification must be maintained throughout employment.

- Excellent communication skills including verbal and written communication.
- Skill in planning and scheduling
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to respond to questions from staff and program participants.
- Individuals must demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and competency with diverse cultural backgrounds, social identities and practices of community members and be willing to participate in anti-racism focused diversity training to increase skills in this area.
- Personal lived experience with mental health is preferred.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
Work Hours:
- Schedule: Sunday 11 am - 7 pm, Monday - Thursday 1 pm - 9pm
- The standard work week is 35 hours.
- Flexibility may be required on occasion.
- This work cannot be performed from home or in hybrid format.
Compensation:
- Compensation will be in the range of $17-20/hr.
