Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is seeking a motivated and compassionate Kauhale Housing Specialist to join our dedicated team. This full-time role is based on Maui, and we’re looking for someone who already calls this island home and is passionate about housing justice and mental health.
Kauhale Housing Specialist Job Description:
- Assist formerly homeless adults with severe mental illness in transitioning into and maintaining permanent supportive housing.
- Coordinate housing placements and ensure residents receive needed documentation and entitlements.
- Conduct initial intake assessments and help residents develop individualized housing support plans.
- Foster positive landlord-tenant relationships, assist with lease signings, and provide ongoing tenancy support.
- Collaborate with clinical teams, property managers, and community partners to promote housing stability.
Kauhale Housing Specialist Requirements:
- Minimum qualification: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred qualification: College preferred, with coursework in psychology, social work, or human development, or equivalent experience in human services.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with an understanding of trauma-informed care.
- Experience working with individuals with severe mental illness or co-occurring disorders is highly desirable.
- Required certifications: Current TB clearance, CPR/First Aid, valid Hawaii driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and clean driving abstract.
