What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Facility Specialist (Part-Time) position at Mentor United Methodist Church?
JOB SUMMARY
The primary task of all staff of Mentor United Methodist Church is to support the work and ministry of the congregation in its efforts to fulfill the Church’s mission to lead all onto a path of Christ-centered discipleship.
The person in this position is uniquely responsible for supporting the Lead Facility Specialist in the upkeep, care and maintenance of Mentor UMC and the equipment in the facility.
The Part-Time Assistant Facility Specialist (hereafter named Assistant Facility Specialist) will work with Church staff, congregation members, volunteers, and other Mentor UMC leaders. The Assistant Facility Specialist will contribute to a positive-working atmosphere in a team-based setting that supports the Church’s mission.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This person will faithfully serve out their call and giftedness, contributing to a team- based environment and agree with and share the mission, vision, and core values of Mentor UMC. They will work with the Pastoral Staff, Church Staff and SPRC to help support and enhance the mission of Mentor UMC.
All staff are accountable to the Lead Pastor who, in consultation with the SPRC, seeks to lead Mentor UMC in fulfilling its mission, vision and core values. This position will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Facility Specialist, or the Office Manager, as applicable. The Lead Facility Specialist reports to the Office Manager, who works with the Trustees to assure care of our facility. Arrangements for special hours, changes in days off, and other such matters shall be agreed to by the Lead Facility Specialist and/or the Office Manager. Any overtime hours and accompanying pay must be approved by the Office Manager. If the absences or unexpected events should be for an extended time, the Chairperson of the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) shall be notified as soon as possible.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Perform facility and custodial work in general and maintain Mentor UMC in a
safe, neat, clean and orderly condition.
2. Assist the Lead Facility Specialist when 2-person jobs are occurring.
3. Learn and acquire knowledge of the facility operations/processes and custodial requirements, from the Lead Facility Specialist, in accordance with Appendix A. The Assistant Facility Specialist is responsible to learn how to perform the jobs and tasks described in Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of Appendix A.
4. Be able to perform most responsibilities of Appendix A when the Lead Facility Specialist is not at work.
5. Keeps the Lead Facility Specialist advised about any maintenance problems that need attention.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Keep sidewalks, steps, and entrances clear (removing debris, snow and/or ice, salting as needed).
2. Perform all other reasonable work and tasks as assigned.
3. Fill in for the Lead Facility Specialist during vacation periods.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Perform tasks safely and operate independently.
- Interact with courtesy, cooperation and confidentiality in all dealings with members of the congregation, staff and the general public.
- Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Respond to requests and responsibilities in a timely fashion and remain organized.
- Execute her/his responsibilities with applicable safety procedures such as: personal safety, the safety of the congregation and visitor, and the safe use and disposal of maintenance materials.
- Be flexible to address needs to perform custodial duties around weddings, funerals and other services that are governed by circumstances and are not predictable.
- Be available to perform duties for up to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
PREFERRED
- Experience in facility maintenance, car/home repairs, building cleaning, etc.
- Skilled with hand and power tools.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must have sufficient strength and endurance to withstand continual moderate
exertion. Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to work inside and
outside of the Church building.

Pay: $20,000.00 - $25,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
