Construction Inspection (Baltimore Area)
Mercado Consultants, Inc., located in Ashton, and Columbia, Maryland, has an immediate opening for an ENTRY TO MID-LEVEL Construction Inspector for construction inspection related work in the areas of water and sewer, roadways & transportation projects.
We are a rapidly growing, mid-sized engineering company with approximately 70 employees. Our company provides Construction Management, Civil and Structural Engineering, Surveying, Bridge Inspection and GIS services to many agencies within the Washington/Baltimore region.

Responsibilities:
· As the owner's field representative, you will oversee contractor work, record and document progress, and prepare daily inspection reports.
· Review all materials tests to ensure that work is satisfactorily performed to the contract documents, and implement changes as needed.
· Inspect project sites to monitor progress and adherence to design specifications, safety protocols and contract standards.
· Overseeing trench excavation, pipe placement and backfill density testing.
· Coordination and communication with local/onsite staff.
· Supervision, quality control and onsite inspection of construction materials.
MID-LEVEL CANDIDATES:
License, Registration, and Certificates:
· Preferred (not required) certifications and training include MARTCP (Mid-Atlantic Region Technician Certification Program) which includes training for Soils and Aggregate Compaction, Concrete testing (ACI), Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), and Pavement Marking. Other preferred training includes OSHA Safety, Traffic Control, Erosion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of basic engineering principles, practices, and methods;
· Knowledge of construction standards and inspection methods and techniques;
· Knowledge of algebra, geometry and the principles of basic mathematics used in engineering;
· Knowledge of Temporary Traffic Control Standards, National Electrical and Safety Codes, and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices;
· Knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM test specifications and methods;
· Ability to learn new computer skills and data processing procedures;
· Ability to perform basic mathematical computations used in engineering design, drawing and drafting;
· Ability to maintain records and adapt records systems for computerization;
· Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings and plans,
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, and the general public;
· Ability to communicate effectively;
· Ability to physically perform essential duties.
· Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
· Ability to prepare an inspection daily report.
Working Conditions:
· Field work involves construction inspection which consists of working at heights, climbing, and working in confined spaces, working adjacent to live traffic, field visits and office tasks. Field work may be required during any season. Occasional overtime required.
Salary:
· Compensation commensurate with experience.
ENTRY LEVEL CANDIDATES:
MERCADO is willing to train candidates with limited inspection experience who have previously performed construction duties for a contractor.
