JOB DUTIES

The EOF Nursing Development Specialist is responsible for providing direction, information, personal attention, care, and support to students in developing their academic and career goals, including the path to apply to one of MCCC’s limited enrollment healthcare professions programs.

Additionally, the EOF Nursing Development Specialist works closely with the Directors of EOF and Nursing to plan and implement recruitment and enrichment opportunities. Collaborating with academic partners, faculty and staff, the Specialist provides strategies and academic reinforcement to students throughout their academic program and as they prepare for success with the Test of Essential Academic Skills and NCLEX-RN exams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the mission statement of the Educational Opportunity Fund Program.
  • Participate in all advisement efforts, including pre-requisite and program course academic advisement, using various modes of communication, embracing progressive advisement and student success in a technology rich environment.
  • Assist students with the development of individual career and academic plans and proactively engage with students each semester to monitor student progress.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops and group information sessions on topics of interest to pre-nursing students.
  • Respond to student inquiries and requests for information via phone, email, social media, etc.
  • Assist EOF staff with the development and coordination of support services for high-risk (e.g., probationary/SAP) EOF participants.
  • Assist the EOF Director in development and implementation of selected programs and activities that promote student retention.
  • Refer EOF participants to academic resources, including Academic Learning Center, EOF Math specialist, writing center, CITA, and other resources on-campus.
  • Participate in recruitment and marketing events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Assigned tasks and responsibilities on both campuses is required for all MCCC positions.

  • Positions in this class typically require ability to use a keyboard, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Computer skills with office applications and the ability to engage in self-directed learning of systems for student information and course management after initial training.
  • Good analytic skills for collecting and analyzing data and making recommendations for improving student recruitment, services, and overall experience.
  • Excellent time management, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as function as part of a team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area of study.
  • A minimum of one to three years of professional experience in advising or counseling.
  • Working knowledge of academic policies and procedures in higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, if necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in liberal arts and sciences, teacher education, counseling or a related field.
  • Experience in health professions/academic advising.
  • Experience with an opportunity or college access program.
  • Licensure or eligible for Registered Professional Nurse in New Jersey.
