Job Duties

  • The Grant Accountant performs the accounting and financial service functions for programs funded by grant and special revenue.
  • Prepare financial projections and budgets, actual versus budget reporting, reviewing/monitoring of individual grants and transactions for compliance with private, local, state and federal fund requirements, and financial grant reporting including the preparation of reports for granting authorities.
  • Attend professional development training and stay abreast of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars and their applicability to grant management related audit, federal regulations, state laws and institutional policies and/or workshops seminars on grants or special revenues.
  • Grant Accountant may also be required to verify budget proposals for grant applications.
  • Provide fiscal service and support for grant-funded programs at the James Kerney Campus.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes reports to the Campus Dean, at the James Kerney Campus, Grants Accounting Officer and the College Controller and is expected to work extensively with the grant managers and staff.
  • Researches issues, prepares invoices/billings and collect funds for the support of the restricted fund expenditures.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of all applicable fiscal reports for sponsored programs and ensures the timely submission thereof.
  • Coordinate with key personnel at varying levels of the institution to support proper and timely expenditure of grant funds in compliance with applicable guidelines and budget deadlines.
  • Act as a liaison between the finance office, grant sponsors, and institutional departments to resolve any financial issues or discrepancies.
  • Compute, prepare and submit the annual indirect cost rate. Provide information about the rate to relevant state agencies as required and apply indirect costs accordingly.
  • Compiles year-end reports, work papers and analysis necessary for the Institutional Finance Office and auditors to complete the annual audit of assigned grants.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all grants, including transactions, reconciliations, and documentation.
  • Provide all accounting information to the Institutional Finance Office.
  • Provide a preliminary review/approve journal entries for program managers, assigns account codes and monitors charges for reasonableness and compliance with applicable policies and procedures. (The Instructional Finance Office or designee will determine final approval.)
  • Performs other duties s assigned.

Positions in this class typically require ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
  • Two to four (2 – 4) years’ experience in grant accounting, financial management, or similar role in a higher education or non-profit organization setting.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state grant regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience with working with Ellucian and Colleague systems.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in Accounting.
  • Experience working in higher education
