What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Youth Services, Librarian 1/Library Associate, Hickory Corner Branch position at Mercer County Library System?
This is a full time (35 hours per week) position normally requiring one evening per week (presently Mondays) and alternate Saturdays; however, schedules may occasionally require flexibility depending on programming needs. The Hickory Corner Branch is open Sundays during the school year and four of the County-observed holidays; applicants must be available to work on some of these days.
The Hickory Corner Branch is the largest eastern branch of the Mercer County Library System with a strong Youth Services department and thriving programming schedule. The successful candidate for this position will have excellent customer service skills and willingness to be a part of a team environment while working with a diverse public to provide outstanding library service to patrons of all ages.
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to: Planning and executing programs for children, from babies through teens, with a focus on STEAM and literacy. Providing reference and reader’s advisory services to young patrons, their parents and guardians, and occasionally to adults. Searching the library catalog, locating library materials, accessing databases and other reference sources, answering phone and email reference inquiries. Maintaining programming calendars, statistics and publicity. Collection development activities include evaluation, selection, and deselection. Providing outreach to local schools and community groups to promote library services. Supervising teen and adult volunteers. Creating and maintaining displays and bulletin boards. Knowledge of current library technologies and trends, and the ability to use the library’s automated system, online resources, and Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, are a must, as well as consistent familiarity of library website and social media platforms. Participation in the library’s social media campaigns and blog are expected.
A MIS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and a New Jersey Librarian’s Certification is required, although students enrolled in a MIS/MLIS program will be considered. The 2024 salary range for this position is $43,527 to $70,300 for a Librarian I and $36,328 to $47,904 for a Library Associate.
