Carrier Dispatcher/Coordinators act as a communication point to the truck drivers; effectively overseeing the distribution of products to and from customers. As a Carrier Dispatcher/Coordinator, you will be involved in multiple facets of the transportation process.

What do Mercer Transportation Carrier Dispatcher/Coordinators Do?

Strategically find loads with the carrier’s preferences in mind. The ideal candidate must be an excellent communicator and able to remain calm, composed, and concise. You must be able to multi-task as well as take the appropriate action with little supervision. The goal is to save drivers time and help in making the best business decisions for them by understanding the fluctuating market and remaining committed to identifying the best rates and loads!

Job Expectations of a Carrier Dispatcher/Coordinators:

The aim is to position trucks for profit by maintaining direct relationships with the drivers and understanding their wants and needs, while understanding and communicating the trends of the current market! Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm

Job duties often include:

• Good communication and a positive attitude are a must. Must be able to communicate well with agents, drivers, and fellow employees.
• Handles inbound telephone traffic to maximize the use of Broker carrier availability. Assists agents and freight coordinators in matching broker trucks with available loads to maximize efficiency.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with Broker Carriers.
• Makes outbound calls to offer freight to outside carriers.
• Handles check calls and advance requests from Broker Carrier drivers and dispatchers in accordance with established policy.

Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Interpersonal Skills and Knowledge a Carrier Dispatcher/Coordinator Should Know

As a Carrier Dispatcher/Coordinator, you will match available trucks with available freight. Providing excellent customer service. The ability to stay organized with materials and time is essential. One of the most critical skills is the ability to efficiently answer and respond to questions regarding freight. You must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills used to effectively convey information with a clear understanding to others.
