Responsibilities
Accountabilities:
- Creates, Implements and Manages International compliance policies, procedures and programs for MDI and associated entities
- Drafts and submits timely license and Certification requests to US Regulatory Agencies, working with customer, vendors, carriers, brokers, and Foreign Government Customs offices.
- Monitors all Commercial outbound loads to ensure compliance as well as quality and damage prevention, while verifying support with department staff
- Manages International related record keeping functions and mandatory files as required by US Law. Completing internal/external audits and self-assessments to ensure compliance and quality across MDI and subsidiaries
- Analyzes products to determine international jurisdiction and commodity classifications while managing an updated internal dept. data warehouse of information.
- Collaborates with internal and external legal departments, customs officials, brokers and freight forwarders on compliance issues and other regulatory matters while keeping up to date on changes that may affect future shipments.
- Works closely with International Shipping Lines, Freight Forwarders and other transportation entities.
- Collects and maintains accurate dept. files on product classifications, country of origin determination, product valuation reporting and export license applications
- Provides technical guidance on regulatory matters while advising functional groups of those updates as well as how to comply. Acts as liaison with all USDA representatives and their respective Divisions to ensure proper documentation occurs with each international shipment
- Researches, updates and manages an internal data warehouse for storage of Harmonized & Schedule B Codes, and MFG Plant Est Numbers for Dairy and Protein items
- Works with MDI staff to ensure accuracy of loading including all cross-dock vendors, consolidated products and equipment that is being shipped from MDI either by trailer or by container.
- Ensures equipment used by carriers is Food Grade and meets all safety standards required for international food shipments. Prepares documents for the customer and carrier including all inspection documents through online portals for FSIS, USDA APHIS and USDA
- Collaborates with local inspectors on required processes and inspections with shipping proteins, produce and hazardous materials.
- Through Certified training, become the Dept. expert in Federal policy with regards to the preparation and shipment of Hazardous Materials. Supervise load/product handling with regards to these types of products.
- Work closely with the Private Brands and International Sales teams to secure brand registration and exclusivity rights in the international markets we supply.
- Own the process of product registration in the foreign countries that require it, working with Alex Lee legal dept. on any agreements or contracts that would be applicable.
- Maintain secure files on all product registrations, customer contracts and product movement that are needed to keep our contracts and agreements in good standing.
- Manages and supervises new internal Freight Forwarding dept. for international shipments
- Negotiates lane rates with outside carriers both Inland and Ocean.
- Supervises Warehouse Dedicated Commercial Accounts Loaders through a dotted line.
- Supervises Commercial Accounts Routers, Quality Control and Logistics support staff.
Qualifications
Desirable Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of customer service or related work experience.
- Some experience in Logistics, International Sales and Distribution is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business preferred
- Intermediate to Advanced level of Microsoft Office applications
- Skilled presenter with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong Internet navigation skills.
