What are the responsibilities and job description for the Procurement Manager/Materials Manager position at Mercury Medical?
- Supervise, coordinate and train purchasing agents.
- Handle major purchases and direct the procurement of materials and services in compliance with duly authorized purchase requisitions.
- Handle logistic process for inbound shipments originating overseas working closely with supplier, freight forwarder and customs broker.
- Delegate routine procurement responsibility and ensure that it is carried out efficiently and expeditiously.
- Authorize purchase orders and other contractual agreements (such as service contracts) or pass authority to a subordinate with the approval of the Executive V.P.
- Stay informed on new materials and techniques; inform engineering, assembly, quality, and other departments about costeffective measures.
- Be thoroughly acquainted with the materials and service needs of the company.
- Maintain, evaluate and expand reliable initial sources or supply and backup sources to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Solicit competitive bids and award contracts on the basis of profitability, keeping in mind quality aspects and delivery capacity.
- Use all available market leads that may impact prices or products; make recommendations for changes to engineering, quality and assembly departments.
- Upgrade knowledge of materials and service costs and maintain accurate, uptodate cost records.
- Ensure that all purchases are correctly marked with accurate bookkeeping account numbers in accordance with accounting instructions and/or policies.
- Implement and monitor an efficient preventive and corrective program to ensure ontime deliveries; take expedient action on delayed items.
- Enforce ethical practices when dealing with company suppliers; monitor subordinates and companies that pursue improper practices.
- Study engineering notices; analyze changes and adjust pending and new orders accordingly.
- Assist in preparation of the assembly department budget and longterm strategy.
- Coordinate with assembly department the obsolete materials and salvage program; make recommendations for improvements to maximize return.
- Assist the Product Design Engineer and the Manufacturing Supervisor in estimating new product costs and lead times; ensure that accurate reports on cost and lead times are forwarded to appropriate committee(s).
- Assist Manufacturing Supervisor in analyzing make/buy information.
- Prepare for all physical inventories and followthrough of proper inventory functions in coordination with the Controller and Distribution/Warehouse Manager.
- Develop, review, analyze, modify (as required) departmental policies / procedures to ensure compliance with company guidelines and quality policies. Train direct reports on all applicable policies / procedures as required.
- Interface with warehouse personnel regarding receiving, stocking and shipping of materials.
