What are the responsibilities and job description for the House Manager position at Mercy House Ministries?
The House Manager position is a key member of our supportive and client-focused staff. We are currently seeking a mission-minded, responsible, self-disciplined, flexible and loving Christian woman to be our live-in House Manager. The House Manager works directly with the residents in our maternity home. They show Christ’s love while providing an example of Christian parenting to homeless pregnant women. They create a godly Christian home environment while being firm and loving in their relationships. They support the residents in their decision of whether to parent or place their baby for adoption. They are responsible for the maternity home’s day-to-day activities and work with the residents to help them achieve their goals. They
make the home their own by creating an atmosphere of peace, that emphasizes community, and the Love of Christ. Should possess knowledge of the social behaviors, preferences, and cultural trends relevant to women aged 18-25.
Key Responsibilities
The House Manager is a woman who is a committed Christian; pro-life; called to God; active in their church; has sufficient maturity to assume responsibility and provide discipline for the young women in their care; has good spiritual, physical, and emotional health; has at least a high school diploma or GED; willing to agree to a two-year commitment; refrains from drug, tobacco and alcohol use; must be able to pass a criminal background check; and have an ability to show unconditional love to women who have never experienced the love of Christ in a personal way. Must have a heart for serving women who have experienced difficult life circumstances, and through God’s love, provide positive life skills training and redirection. A heart of gold, nerves of steel, and a sense of humor are essential.
Responsibilities Include:
Care of Residents
- Be responsible for the care of residents as needed
- Help to facilitate resident obligations such as social welfare programs, and medical & therapy and appointments in conjunction with the Resident Care Manager
- Transportation of residents to medical and educational appointments
- Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed
- Respond to emergencies as needed, such as ER visits and other types as they arise
- Medication and Medical reporting if needed
- Liaise with medical professionals if needed
- Provide immediate postpartum support, watching for any signs of needed intervention, and provide support
for infant feeding, engaging the services of a lactation consultant when appropriate.
Supervision of Residents
- Model appropriate parenting skills to residents
- Issue chore assignments, laundry days, etc.
- Monitor resident chores
- Provide structure and written warnings to residents if needed.
Nutrition Support
- Prepare menus and support in meal planning
- Prepare a household meal at a minimum of two days per week
- Cook meals; model and teach healthy dietary habits
- Ensure residents go food shopping every other week
Household, Budget & Scheduled Maintenance
- Model appropriate home care to residents, ensuring household care and maintenance is successfully achieved
- Perform household maintenance and purchase any needed equipment
- Conduct monthly fire drills, van audits, and physical site inspections
- Oversee household calendar and scheduling
- Maintain a house budget
Organization Support
- Interview new residents with the Executive Director
- Participate in daily and weekly staffing meetings as required
- Coordinate volunteer activities
- Attend events on some occasions to promote Mercy House Ministries in the community
- Organize and dispense physical donations as needed
- Must have a sense of urgency when supporting residents and completing work product, i.e board reports,
client communication logs, etc.
Spiritual Support
- Hold daily prayer with residents
- Hold at least one weekly Bible Study, and daily devotions 5 days per week with residents
- Attend church services with residents
- Model the heart, appearance and behavior of a godly woman

Qualifications:
- Have a personal relationship with Christ and a tradable history of church involvement
- Prior experience working in a residential setting
- Conflict Management Training (or ability to obtain within the first 90 days)
- Proof of training in trauma-informed care or related training
- Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience, a safe driving record, and continuous
maintenance of personal automobile insurance
- HS diploma or GED
- Successful completion of a Level 2 Background Screening CPR/AED/FIrst Aid Training (or the ability to attain it within the first 90 days).
- Ability to Regularly lift 20 pounds.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
