The responsibility of a transcriptionist is to transcribe and edit all notes dictated on the Digital Dictation System in an acceptable, pre-determined timely manner, thus making it available in the patient's medical record quickly, helping to ensure quality care.
Responsibilities
- Transcribe/edit inpatient history and physicals, operative reports, discharge summaries, consultation notes, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery office operative notes, and Gastroenterology notes, and Ambulatory clinic notes utilizing dictation system.
- Achieves department productivity standards
- Achieves department Quality standards
- Education and Work Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must possess 2 years experience transcribing in acute care setting.
- Radiology experience is a plus.
- Must be experienced in operation of standard web-based PC transcription software/hardware.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel
- Microsoft Outlook
- Epic
- Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
- Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Other Requirements:
- Must possess excellent medical terminology, anatomy and grammar skills.
- Must be organized and efficient in use of typing time.
- Volunteer for rotating Holiday beeper coverage.
- Must be able to accurately type 150 lines per hour both editing voice recognition and straight transcribing.
- Must be able to type accurately.
