Education: Bachelors in Nutrition and Food Sciences required, preferably a Registered Dietitian
Skills: Strong background in nutrition and meal planning; excellent communication skills (verbal and written); Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English; Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred; exceptional organizational and time management skills. Experience providing nutrition coaching to individuals with eating disorders, digestive disorders, and/or gastrointestinal diseases (e.g., celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, etc.). ServSafe certification preferred. Must have a thorough understanding of, and dedication to, the vision of Mercy Multiplied, along with demonstrated Christian work ethics.
Eligibility: Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
Training requirements must be met and maintained: Housekeeping and sanitation principles, recognition of early signs of illness and the need for professional assistance, training in Universal Precautions by a local health facility. Provision of residential care and supervision, including communication. Must be able to assist in the care and supervision of residents in the event of an emergency and shall have received training in the following: The Facility’s planned emergency procedures and first aid. Must have good understanding of principles of nutrition, food preparation and storage and menu planning.
Overview: The Nutrition Manager handles a variety of meal planning and nutrition, coaching activities under direction of a registered dietitian, including creating and maintaining individualized nutrition programs for residents, teaching basic nutrition, and ensuring compliance with health codes and licensing standards.
Responsibilities:
Develop and Maintain Individualized Food Programs for Residents
- Develop meal plans and teach basic nutrition to each resident individually (including her primary counselor) regarding personal nutritional plan under the direction of a registered dietitian
- Develop ongoing community resources/opportunities for residents in the area of Nutrition
- Utilize cookbooks and recipes, as needed; oversee meal preparation for lunch and dinner and check work details in the kitchen and dining room for all meals
- Monitor meals and snacks of residents per schedule
Maintain Health Codes and Licensing Standards
- Consult with a Nutritionist for licensing purposes if certification does not cover development of menus
- Stay abreast of current research on nutrition and wellness; follow guidelines set by the State of California or local governing body; attain continual education in areas of Nutrition and Health
Inter-Departmental/Home Coordination
- Collaborate with Medical Services Manager and Program Director to set weight, exercise, and nutrition guidelines for eating disorder residents within Wellness Meetings
- Confer with Medical Services Manager about any special dietary needs due to medical conditions and/or doctor’s instructions
- Participate with Medical Services Manager, Program Director, and Counselor in Resident Team Meetings for eating disorder residents
- Communicate any pertinent nutritional information to night/weekend staff as needed
- Assist with household duties whenever needed and monitor schedule
- Must be responsible for the safe transportation of residents
- Other duties when necessary
Coordinate with Community Relations Manager
- Coordinate with the Program Director with the cooking and serving of meals for Community Relations events
- Oversee food for all Community Relations events
