Sr. Scientist/Principal Scientist, Quantitative Biology/Pharmacology

At Merida Biosciences, we are pioneering true precision medicines for antibody-driven diseases. We specifically target pathogenic antibodies and their cellular sources with bespoke Fc biotherapeutics engineered to selectively and completely eliminate the root causes of autoimmune and allergic diseases, and to achieve deep, durable responses while preserving essential immunity. We are looking for passionate individuals to join our mission to transform treatment paradigms across the spectrum of antibody-driven diseases.

We are seeking a quantitative biologist/pharmacologist to become an integral part of the Quantitative Sciences group. The successful candidate will report to the VP of Quantitative Sciences and will work closely with the Preclinical Biology and Clinical teams to apply tools from data science, mechanistic modeling and simulation, and noncompartmental and other PK/PD analyses to drive drug discovery and development decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong theoretical quantitative background, excellent practical coding skills, and experience and broad interest in a relevant biological or biomedical field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the in vivo and in vitro pharmacology teams to support quantitative study design and analysis aimed at various biological and pharmacological questions.
  • Build, develop, or oversee development of mechanistic PK/PD models, disease processes, and conduct clinical trial simulations in support of drug development from early feasibility through lead selection and dose selection for early clinical trials.
  • Oversee the work of external partners in developing, evaluating, and optimizing these models where applicable.
  • Perform secondary analyses of model outputs, create insightful visualizations and summaries, and communicate results to the broader organization.
  • Closely partner with the clinical pharmacology team, helping to analyze data to infer key parameters and inform clinical decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Systems Biology, Bioengineering, Pharmacology, or a related field. 2 industry experience strongly preferred" for PhD level; or M.Sc. with 6 years of relevant experience in the biopharma industry.
  • Proficient in core data science skills including data cleaning, processing, and visualization.
  • Experience in using mechanistic or semi-mechanistic mathematical modeling and simulation (QSP, PK/PD) to answer practical biological and pharmacological problems.
  • A desire and ability to quickly learn about biological mechanisms in immunology and autoimmune diseases. Experience in working with antibodies or antibody-like biologics is strongly preferred.
  • Embraces new challenges and thrives in a dynamic start-up environment.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and high motivation.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team to meet deadlines and contribute to strategic company objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
