Meridian is looking for a Certified Peer Recovery Coach to assist our Residential clients as they begin their road to recovery.

This is a Sunday-Thursday schedule. 8:00am-5:00pm

Starting range is $15-$20 per hour plus an additional $3.40 per hour when working on site.

Position Overview:
The peer recovery coach is responsible for sharing previous life experience with substance use, an ability to address the recovery needs of individuals, and sharing one’s own personal recovery journey- even if the recovery path is different from that of the individual’s being served.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Duties):
1. Assist clients in identifying strengths, needs, current resources and needed resources;
2. Facilitate peer support groups and lectures;
3. Assist clients in developing a written recovery plan that will build client social, physical and human capital;
4. Meet with clients on a regular basis for review of recovery plan;
5. Assist clients in acquiring resources: identify resources, teach about resources available and how to access, assist in making a connection and securing resources, advocating, etc..;
6. Meet with clients transferring between level of care to ensure a smooth transition and client follow through;
7. Able to appropriately handle angry or non-cooperative clients in a respectful, professional manner;
8. Meet with clients individually or as a group to provide emotional support, teach life skills and other recovery sustaining information;
9. Model healthy recovery behavior and assist clients in identifying with and connecting with the recovering community, and developing other drug-free social and recreational activities;
10. Direct contact with the community, clients and potential clients, by phone or in person either at the office or in the community;
11. Attend recreational activities and interact professionally with clients;
12. Knows, understands and abides by Agency rules, policies and procedures.
13. Participate in treatment team’s case review;
14. Consult with other professionals in support of client’s treatment;
15. Assist staff and clients with community resources and services/documentation;
16. Provide crisis intervention;
17. Assist with ATAs/AMAs;
18. Facilitate warm and welcoming client entry into detox and residential programs;
19. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Peer Recovery Coach Training through Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR)
  • Experience: A minimum of one to three (1-3) years of peer recovery coach experience in behavioral health and/or treatment of substance use disorders preferred
  • Lived experience with a substance use disorder (SUD) and/or mental illness, and at least two years of sobriety and recovery is required

Skills: Ability to read and write English legibly.

  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner.

Must be able to pass drug screen for illegal substances and background check
