What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Accountant position at Meridian Specialty Yarn Group, Inc.?
PRIMARY FUNCTION :
The primary function or overall purpose of the position.
Under the leadership of the General Accounting Manager, this position provides accounting and payroll processing functions to support the Finance and Human Resources departments and performs all work in accordance with company policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
The essential functions (i.e. key responsibilities with expected end results) which must be accomplished in order to fulfill the purpose of the position as described above include the following :
Accounting, including but not limited to the following :
- Process daily bank deposit using DepositEdge, prepare daily cash / receipt report.
- Prepare and process credit card transactions as needed.
- Post payment / adjustment to Accounts Receivable account as needed.
- Create and update cash flow report.
- Create monthly Expenditure Report and update as needed.
- Enter miscellaneous receipts to cash book and reconcile cash book as needed.
- Reconcile all banks and balance to numbers from corporate office at month end.
- Record cleared accounts payable checks in Syspro, research missing / lost checks.
- Print accounts payable checks.
- Post petty cash receipts in General Ledger.
- Reconcile and post cash box from trade show in General Ledger as needed.
- Create positive pay file and send to BMO .
- Create and maintain entries for Expenditure report.
- Create and maintain post for accruals into Syspro.
- Clear intercompany sales.
- Adjust system generated transactions (Reverse Cost of Good entries created by system due to Finished Goods invoicing.
- Add and maintain accounts payable vendors in Syspro.
- Submit / receive Certificate of Liability Insurance from Vendors as needed.
- Prepare Energy Report.
- Enter sales commission accrual in Syspro at month end.
- Post journal entry for Mill House sales.
- Prepare annual Escheats and Personal Property Tax reports.
- Prepare annual 1099-misc. forms.
- Payroll, including but not limited to the following :
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for non-exempt employees utilizing ADP Workforce Now (WFN.)
- Process monthly payroll for exempt employees in WFN.
- Reconcile and complete temporary staffing reports and invoices.
- Setup / maintain garnishments, tax levies, and child support deductions in WFN.
- Prepare payroll entries and payroll accruals to post for month end .
- Download payroll deduction list from WFN and reconcile to scheduled deductions.
- Download payroll reports and prepare payroll summary to report on expenditure report.
- Reconcile payroll deductions to billing invoices received from insurance vendors.
- Complete Bureau of Labor Statistics data collection quarterly.
- Download quarterly Statement of Deposits for each company.
- Review and finalize W-2 earning summary at year end.
- Provide reports and prepare spreadsheets for Payroll Audit for corporate office at year end.
- Assist Human Resources with OSHA 300A reporting data at year end.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Observe all safety and quality procedures while completing required duties.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned by management. If necessary, employees may be asked to assist other employees and / or temporarily fill-in or act as a back-up for a position that is different from the employee’s usual position.
