Job Summary
The Surgical Services Manager plans, organizes and manages the daily operations for the department, serving as a role model and leader. As a Manager this position oversees and coordinates patient care provided by the department and assists leadership with patient/customer service, employee engagement, staff development, financial health, business growth and quality and safety outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates multidisciplinary patient/family care within surgical services from preop to post op.
- Responsible for the supervision, coordination and evaluation of nursing care provided in surgical services.
- Uses evidenced based practice and performance improvement to guide clinical decision-making.
- Involves all employees to proactively identify risk mitigation and improvement opportunities, resulting in documented improvements in safety and quality practices.
- Analyzes data collection to generate on-going improvements which measurably improve the department and overall hospital patient satisfaction.
- Ensures the roll out of tactical action plans, individual goals and accountability measures that result in successful execution of organizational goals.
- Works with other departments in a collegial manner to communicate effectively and, identify and resolve issues. Participates in planning of new programs.
- Creates a culture that earns employee commitment as measured by retention and employee satisfaction goals, and is in alignment with sound management practices, applicable laws and company values.
- Monitors and evaluates operational and quality performance and assists with performance improvement activities.
- Manages daily operations with accountability for achieving targeted levels of growth, budget and additional specified financial objectives.
- Develops policies, procedures and practice standards for the surgical services departments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree from an accredited nursing program, or completion of diploma nurse program required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or a related field preferred
- 1-3 years of acute care nursing experience required
- 2-4 years of leadership experience preferred

- Working knowledge of surgical nursing skills.
- Ability to lead, manage, and support a team.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to address issues in a tactful and timely manner with patients, visitors, providers and staff.

- Ability to work and manage in a fast-paced, environment with changes in patient acuity and staffing patterns.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Proficient in word documents, spreadsheets and basic computer skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required and
- BCLS - Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) required and
- Health Services\ACLS issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) required
- Clinical Area of Specialty Certification Perioperative certification preferred
