Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) the Director of Marketing and Communications is a senior leader that has overall responsibility for the strategy, execution, compliance, and results of Meriwest Credit’s Union enterprise-wide marketing, communications, and product development initiatives. These initiatives, in alignment with our strategic vision, focus on revenue growth, brand recognition, digital presence, and community connection, with the primary goal of communicating the value of doing business with Meriwest.
The Director of Marketing and Communications Marketing and Communications has extensive expertise in digital marketing, branding, analytics, market trends, product development, written communication, and editing. This role also involves serving on several internal committees and may have input on strategic decisions that impact Meriwest.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead in-house marketing professionals and manage vendor-based marketing functions while demonstrating success at identifying target markets and associated preferences and impactful messaging to reach critical demographics across the spectrum.
- Define the message and objective for marketing communications and channels, including for all financial products and services, while overseeing branding, market research, public relations, and external communications.
- Establish a best-in-class social, digital and web presence that drives consumer awareness, engagement, affinity and purchase.
- Empower and motivate consumers in order to grow the brand and to achieve short and longer term marketing goals with maintaining stability of email and social media reputation.
- Develop an annual budget for the Marketing Department to achieve sustainable growth and advance the credit union’s strategic objectives.
- Connect analytics and insights to positively impact member interactions and business outcomes and leverage messaging to support the findings.
- Expertise in the oversight of copywriting and positioning of marketing promotions/communications and their impact on success.
- Develop and promote best-in-class products and services to elevate member adoption and satisfaction.
- Direct Market Research in developing targets for each marketing communication program and measure ROI.
- Employ analytics to improve ROI of marketing programs.
- Develop criteria for the targeting of products as well as services such as online/mobile banking.
- Establish performance objectives (response rate, etc.) for each program.
- Manage to completion multiple projects from the annual Business Plan. Execute and implement integrated, multi-channel marketing plans.
- Manage to budget and reconcile project spending.
- Manage marketing vendor partnerships.
Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Minimum Qualifications
- Five to eight years of marketing experience, specifically focused on financial products and online/mobile banking (marketing planning/execution, marketing research), is required, with preferred previous experience serving as a Director or VP of Marketing.
- College degree required; Marketing, Communication or Business preferable
- Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of professional diplomacy, trust and relationship. Obtaining cooperation and agreement (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and a expert level of interpersonal and written communication skills are critical to the success of this position.
- Knowledge of consumer financial services and products and ability to learn the products and services offered; identifying our competitive advantage relative to other financial institutions; and communicating how this benefits our members.
- Ability to work within team and with other departments in a constructive manner that supports Meriwest’s values of member service, teamwork, commitment, and performance.
- Deep, demonstrable understanding of marketing strategy development and ability to plan and execute effective promotions.
- Knowledge of consumer demographics and building marketing/communication criteria by channel for member awareness.
- Ability to analyze and leverage data to improve results and increase ROI.
- Understand and represent consumer perspectives, translating consumer/market needs into day-to-day project work.
- Expert knowledge of paid advertising.
- Excellent project management skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in creating and managing budgets.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects, working in a fast-paced environment and able to meet deadlines.
- Superior organization, verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Expert with Microsoft Office suite, as well as the ability to learn new software systems.

Meriwest utilizes a grading system to determine salary ranges for all positions. Each grade is assigned a salary range which consists of a minimum, midpoint, and maximum rate. The Director of Marketing and Communications position is a Grade 15.
- Target Range: $129,262.91 to $172,350.55*
*The target range for entry in a new position is between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on experience and qualifications.
In situations where a more qualified candidate may possess additional experience, there is potential for this role to evolve into a VP, Marketing and Communications position, which is classified as a Grade 16. The salary range for the VP, Marketing and Communications position is $169,706.13 to $212,132.66.
