What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Coordinator position at Merrill Steel?
Responsibilities:
· Enforce established safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company standards. Identify gaps and changes in needs in the safety program. Propose solutions to close identified gaps in the safety program.
· Conduct regular safety inspections (including, but not limited to egress access, fire extinguisher, eye wash, rigging) and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
· Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement preventive measures in a timely manner.
· Participate and be active on the floor to develop a trust and successful relations with all employees.
· Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, including incident reports, investigation findings, and corrective actions taken.
· Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability. This will require an on-floor presence to be successful. (with 70% time allotted to the floor)
· Provide training and education on safety topics, including CPR, first aid, and emergency response procedures to include preparing and conducting monthly safety meetings on required and relevant topics.
· Stay current on industry trends and changes in safety regulations to proactively address potential risks.
· Provide daily checks on teammates on light or limited duty to ensure they are in compliance with their restrictions. Work with management team to find suitable work that stays within their restrictions and they are complying with established company policies.
· Participate in visits from regulatory agencies and assist HR in reporting to regulatory agencies.
· Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for new equipment and processes that are installed/implemented in the plant.
· Assemble components for rigging as required by production.
· Manage safety consultant (if applicable) to ensure compliance is maintained with OSHA.
· Provide safety support and advice to the Plant Superintendent and staff.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
