SUMMARY: The primary function of the brush painter/varnisher position is to provide a first-class service in the prepping of vessels for the customer base. The individual will also be trained as time permits to prepare varnish and apply coatings as needed. The primary focus is this individual will be to prep, and paint areas as needed. This associate will also be introduced to varnish prep and application processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • To prep and apply primers and top coats as needed to areas of vessels as instructed.
  • To learn the processes of varnish preparation and application of finish products.
  • To carefully use the machines in a professional manner to achieve the high quality of prep work and make ready for finish products.
  • Assist other painters and prep personnel in the process of completing large tasks as a team.
  • Maintain the highest of cleanliness in the yard and surrounding areas. Although it is a large facility, as time goes a clean yard will lead to a clean facility.
  • To learn and abide by the proper protocol of the cleaning and disposing of the waste products in a manner that follows best management practices.
  • Continually learn the process and paint application process and mixing instructions of all paint and primer products along with fairing compounds, to achieve the highest standard results and make ready for paint.
  • Assist with the cleanliness of the vessels and your work area to be ready for the next days work and safe to function.
  • To learn the trade of prepping and varnishing vessels teak areas. This will include the taping, prepping and build up coat application, but will also encompass a training regiment in order to be able in the future to apply a final coat to all projects. This process will be a time training area, and the associate will be instructed and then let to do the final coating.
  • At times will be instructed to polish the stainless metal in order to install upon the completion of the varnish work.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to create standard correspondence. Ability to effectively and concisely present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees. Ability to work from oral and written instructions. Proficient verbal communication skills, in English, are required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Candidates must possess a HS diploma or GED equivalent, have a valid DL
  • 2 years experience with brush painting and varnishing techniques.
  • 2 years experience spray and/or brush painting.
  • Understand mixing process.
  • All candidates must have an excellent reliability record, be self-motivated to perform quality work, have success working in a team environment and excellent customer service skills.

Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38 – 50 per week
