What are the responsibilities and job description for the DRAFTER position at Merritt?
Purpose of position
Responsible for drawing architectural and millwork features for assigned project under the direction of the assigned Project Engineer.
Role and Responsibilities
- Operate computer-aided drafting (CAD) equipment to produce designs, working drawings and shop drawings accurately
- Analyze building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, and other technical documents to determine effect on architectural designs.
- Ability to understand structural, electrical and mechanical design concepts
- Analyze technical implications of architect’s design concept, for inferences between structural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical disciplines
- Draw rough and detailed scale plans for foundations, buildings and structures, based on preliminary concepts and sketches
- Lay out plane interior room arrangements for projects using CAD
- Create and revise drawings as required using established standards
- Obtain and assemble data to complete architectural designs, visiting sites to compile and take measurements as necessary
- Research dimensions and make up of materials and equipment to be installed per plans & specifications
- Determine procedures and instructions to be followed, according to design specifications and quantity of materials
- Prepare quality take offs, bidding documents and technical reports for specific projects
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- 3 years of experience
- Knowledge of structural issues, architectural design, electrical, mechanical and low voltage work relative to residential market preferred
- Proficient in AutoCAD (Required)
- Experience working with external reference files (Xrefs)
- Knowledge in cabinetmaking and millwork
- Experience with dimensioning and noting
- Experience with block usage
- Must be extremely detail oriented
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
