What are the responsibilities and job description for the LPN or RN position at Merry Glen Home?
This position is 6-8 hours a day, three days a week (Friday-Saturday-Sunday). Excellent supplemental opportunity for a retired or semi-retired LPN or RN, or a nurse who is ready for something other than long, stressful hours in a hospital or nursing care facility. Work with another nurse and direct caregivers in a group training home serving adults with developmental disabilities. Easy-going environment, good people and supportive leadership.
Specific Duties:
-Communication about and advocacy for the Loved Ones with healthcare providers, therapists, pharmacy, nurse delegators, etc. to ensure medical needs are thoroughly met.
-Monitor and respond to email, texts, voice mail and logging on Therap throughout the shift (no less than twice a day) to keep current on ongoing developments.
-Review prior logging and announcements in Therap and logbooks to keep well-informed of new developments and changes in each Loved One’s status and service needs.
-Attend medical appointments as requested and, as needed, dental appointments with Loved Ones with thorough documentation of any new information/orders/prescriptions.
-Review, revise and assist with the medical portion of each Loved One’s care plan, which may include attendance at the care plan meetings.
-Perform routine checks for Loved Ones (e.g., skin integrity, vitals, assessment, etc.) at the group training home and supported living home, at least weekly.
-Perform nursing procedures for Loved Ones as needed (e.g., g-tube change, insulin injection, IV care, other relevant treatments).
-Train team members on proper care procedures such as transferring, safe use of Hoyer, taking vitals, catheter care, basic wound care, signs and symptoms to watch for, etc.
-Ensure prescriptions and doctor orders any follow-ups (such as labs and referrals) are correct and up to date.
-Work with primary care providers to ensure medical device book is up to date.
-When needed, communicate with families/guardians to keep them informed on health changes, new or discontinued doctor orders, etc.
-Administer diagnostic tests to team members and Loved Ones as needed (e.g., Covid-19 or influenza screening, etc.).
-Attend leadership and other related meetings as requested, and staff meetings whenever possible.
-Assist with other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $38.00 - $42.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
