Mesa Associates, Inc. is looking for a Substation Physical Design Engineer Associate to join our team in the Lakewood, CO office. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of deliverables associated with substation design projects supporting large electric utility clients as well as renewable projects.
These deliverables include, high voltage general arrangement drawings, electrical equipment plan & elevations, above & below grade conduit & grounding drawings, control enclosure layouts and bill of materials. The position will report to a Principal Engineer and will be working directly with experienced engineers and designers. The primary duties include:
- Perform substation physical design, including the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates
- Perform careful self-checking activities to ensure the quality of work before it is presented to senior design reviewers
- Prepare computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors
- Perform engineering calculations such as conduit and bus sizing, yard lighting and lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis.
- Ensure all designs confirm to our client’s and industry standards
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed
- Utilize client and/or company information system to track and update design activities
- Attend project meetings to gather scope of work.
- May provide on-site field support during construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:
$65,000 - $97,000
The expected compensation is a range determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate, internal equity, work location, and hiring department’s fiscal resources.
