POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provides library service to all patrons and staff support as needed

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Regional Branch Manager

BENEFITS:

This full-time position includes a full benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and supplemental insurance coverages as well as HRA and retirement savings. Benefits include vacation and sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.

WAGE:

$17.50-20.67 per hour, DOE

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Service to Library Patrons

  • Provides library service upon demand, issues library cards, checkout materials, answers directional questions, answer phone calls, assist patrons with the use of computers and other technology, places holds, locates material and information using the print collection and online resources.
  • Provides basic instruction on the use of the self-check stations, return system, holds pick up system, text notifications, library catalog, PC reservation, printing, mobile printing, utilizing the Internet and library resources.
  • Provides staffing coverage at the Fruita, Orchard Mesa and Gateway branches on a routine basis and other library locations as requested.
  • Responds to routine patron inquiries concerning library procedures and policies. Promotes and directs patrons to other services throughout the library.

Branch Services Coordinator

  • Develops and conducts regular training for all new and existing department staff to ensure that they have the knowledge to complete their job duties consistently and in an effective manner.
  • Implements systems, policies and procedures, and exemplifies proper use of them.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by ensuring organization standards.
  • Develops schedules, resolves operations problems. Provides leadership in absence of the Regional Branch Manager.
  • Provides excellent service by ensuring quality and customer service standards.
  • Works in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator to train and direct the work of department volunteers.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Other Library Duties, including

  • Check in all materials, sort and shelve items and process holds in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Merchandise the collection, create book displays, and maintain an inviting well-organized library
  • Maintain a working knowledge and basic understanding of all MCL services, programs and events.
  • Communicate consistently and in a timely manner verbally and through email, work with others to complete assignments

Maintains self-development and keeps up-to-date on Library affairs

Performs other duties as assigned or requested

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge and current awareness of library policies and procedures

Knowledge of alphabetical and Dewey Decimal filing systems

Knowledge of Internet resources and basic searching techniques

Knowledge of standard safety practices

Skill in understanding and applying oral, written, illustrated or demonstrated instructions

Skill in observing groupings and identifying misplaced items when shelving materials

Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer

Ability to operate a variety of library equipment in a safe and effective manner

Ability to effectively use all office technology available

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to remain standing or bending for extended periods of time

Ability to maneuver about the library in a timely fashion

Ability to bend to floor level or reach a height of 75 inches

Ability to push movable carts loaded to a maximum of 250 pounds.

Ability to read a minimum print size equal to 10 point

Ability to tolerate dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado driver license and to transport self to other library locations in

a timely fashion

At least twenty years of age, for automobile insurance purposes.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Subject to many interruptions. Travel to various branches required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Combination of four years’ experience and/or education in a related field.

  • Education can include college or vocational or technical training.
  • Experience should be related to customer service which can include library or retail experience.

SCHEDULE: Includes some evening and weekend hours

Meal break of at least ½ hour per day to be taken for each 5 hours scheduled

Must be able to work a flexible schedule and to be available to work flexible hours to cover unplanned staffing shortages
