    STEM and Enrichment Opportunities:
    Designed to provide relevancy and challenge for all students, Central High School is the first National Certified STEM High School in Colorado. Students in the STEM Program have a variety of pathways available to them including four year college preparatory pathways, career and technical pathways, military pathways, PTECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) pathways (Associate's Degrees options in: manufacturing, welding, mechanical engineering technology, and mechatronics.) and TREP (Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation). 25% of the school's faculty have become STEM certified through the National institute of STEM Education, and our school is working to move from a program to STEM FOR ALL students. Concurrent enrollment courses through Western Colorado Community College and Colorado Mesa University are available to all students, and we offer English 111,112, Chemistry 121, Chemistry 131, Math 108, and Math 113 on campus taught by approved instructors; Career Center courses are available to students in grades 9-12 to explore a variety of vocations such as automotive, horticulture, culinary, medical careers, and small animal care; Career Wise Internships are available to all students grades 10-12; JROTC is available to all students in grades 9-12.

    Advance Placement:
    Advanced Placement courses are open to all students, grades 9-12 and are offered in the following subjects: English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Statistics, Calculus AB/BC, US History, US Government and Politics, Human Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, Spanish Language, and Computer Science Principles. Honors courses are available for students in the 9th and 10th grade levels in English Composition, Biology, and Geometry and Algebra 2.

    Job Summary:
    High School Assistant Principal

    As Central's High School Assistant Principal, you will be responsible for increasing student achievement by supporting an aligned and coherent system that includes the District 51 Learning Model, and Instruction-Based standards. In accordance with Board of Education (BOE) policies the Assistant Principal is part of the building leadership and as such is involved with many aspects of the assigned school’s management and oversight.

    Educational Delivery:
    This position supports the development of academic, post-secondary education, District, and community partnerships that provide educational experiences for students through multi-faceted education and career exploration. Working collaboratively with community and school stakeholders, the Assistant Principal is responsible for:
    • Supporting dynamic, innovative programming to align with student needs as well as current post-secondary demands and trends;
    • Continuously monitor and be knowledgeable of current and future post-secondary vocational and academic programs, opportunities, demands/trends locally, regionally, and nationally;
    • Monitoring and ensuring the behavioral expectations, curriculum and instructional programs recognize the contributions of diverse groups and foster success for all students regardless of gender, sex, and/or disability;
    • Promoting and leading the use of technology in performance based instructional programs;
    • Using data to analyze student attendance trends, truancy interventions, and to serve as a catalyst for, and benchmark of growth and continuous student engagement improvements. Assistant Principal is often the administrative representative for investigating incidents involving students and as such must balance the need for sensitivity, consideration of any public relation impact, and to be knowledgeable of and adhere to the applicable laws, policies, statues, and procedures.
    • Oversees the school’s community outreach regarding safety and welfare including contact with students, parents, businesses, community agencies organizations and others.
    Instructional Curriculum:
    Leadership in this dynamic field requires an understanding of the philosophy of standards based education, the D51 Learning Model, the processes of curriculum development and its effectiveness in the school. Responsibilities within this area include:
    • Implementing, and monitoring the effectiveness of and growing the school’s adopted instructional programs;
    • Collecting and analyzing student assessment or performance data for a variety of purposes including but not limited to meeting regulatory requirements, recommending changes or updates to curricula, and identifying staff Professional Learning needs;
    • Supporting efforts to develop student performance-based standards that are relevant and applicable to the D51 Learning Model and current environments;
    • Implementing instructional and assessment strategies through collaboration, leadership teams, and planning Professional Learning.
    Staff Supervision and Development:
    • As a leader in the District, the Assistant Principal is charged with supporting a staff development program that recognizes:
      • Student success as the primary focus;
      • Applied principles of collaborative adult learning.
    • Assistant Principal promotes and oversees that professional learning follows the District 51 Learning Model and is incorporated throughout classrooms and content areas according to the school plan.
    • As assigned the Assistant Principal directly oversees the supervision of all school personnel in accordance with the District policies and applicable laws. Supervising and evaluating vocational and academic teachers, counselors, support staff and administrators is conducted in the framework of instructional program goals and expectations including a variety of human resources responsibilities but not limited to:
      • Interviewing, hiring, training, promoting, planning, and assigning work
      • Conducting performance evaluations, rewarding and disciplining employee conduct,
      • Addressing employee/student complaints and resolving problems.
      • Assistant Principal will assume supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and in accordance with human resource management training and skills development.

    Campus and Building Operations:
    Assistant Principal provides operational support to the Principal as assigned. Duties may include but are not limited to:
    • Collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders to develop the school’s annual master schedule;
    • Working with custodial and grounds staff, support personnel, teachers and others to implement the school-wide safety and emergency protocols;
    • Creating partnerships with parents, guardians, community members, youth-based organizations and other stakeholders to provide support all students’ learning, development, and well-being.;
    • Coordinating a variety of school-based projects, events, and activities.
    504 Accommodations:
    Building Leaders support the 504 accommodation processes appointing a 504 Coordinator for their building and consistently participating in the initial and triannual meetings. Principals are required to attend all Special Education Manifestation Determination meetings for their students. This role further supports the 504 process in their building by observing student progress, gaining feedback, and maintaining a full understanding of the impact of 504 accommodations to the 504 student, their peers, staff, and the school community at large. They are also responsible for ensuring all staff understand 504 laws and provides guidance in implementing 504 plans. Reviewing and approving each plan in Synergy is the responsibility of the Principal/Assistant Principal.

    Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in education plus additional coursework required for certification or licensure
    • Minimum of three years of experience in building administration or instructional leadership role;
    • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in a classroom setting and demonstrated leadership experience.
    • Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by the District.
      • Acceptable equivalent will be at the sole discretion of the District.
    • Valid Colorado Principal/Administrator's License
      • Or expectation for the Assistant Principal to obtain Administrative Licensure within one year of hire.
