Assists with the daily operations of the Building Inspection Division of the Community Development Department. Monitors permitting software for accuracy, assist with budget, provides reports, does research to provide accurate information to other agencies, monitors State and Federal requirements for the department and assists managers with training to keep the department up to date.

Has strong computer skills.
Is willing to learn about the building industry so that they can help with office procedures as they relate to field inspections.
Assist Building Official / Deputy Building Official with day to day operations of the Building Department.
Assists with the preparation of the annual budget for the division, performs financial analyses of division operations, and conducts periodic budget performance evaluations when requested.
Confers with the Building Official to keep him/her informed on key issues and progress toward objectives and to gain their support and approval, makes recommendations to assist management in making needed improvement
Assists with training and continuing education for the department’s advancement in new technology.
Assists with transitioning from paper to electronic permitting system.
Assist others with department’s software requirements and collaborates with others to gain potential efficiencies, usability, upgrades, etc.
Evaluates office and inter-departmental procedures and makes recommendations for modifications as necessary to maintain efficient and effective office operations.
Reviews a variety of documents for accuracy and completeness.
Assists in developing and implementing office objectives, policies, procedures and work standards; maintains policy and procedure manuals.
Receives and responds to telephone calls and emails in a timely manner from contractors as well as the general public.
Schedules appointments, meetings, work activities and other functions as required; uses specialized software for scheduling.
Attends staff meetings, meetings, seminars, and training sessions; maintains current knowledge of
departments records and responsibilities.
Utilizing computer, locates permit and inspection information, maintains familiarity with office computer system, assist with liquor and open records request.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
High School or equivalent and five (5) years of progressive work experience.
Or
Two-year college or technical school degree in administrative support, business, or a related field with two
(2) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
Or
Bachelor's degree in business, public administration or related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience.
Or
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Any certifications relevant to job will be given additional consideration.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time and intermittently walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach while performing office duties; lift and/or move light weights; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Must be able to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing and operating office equipment. Must be able to use a telephone to communicate verbally and a keyboard to communicate through written means, to review information and enter/retrieve data, to see and read characters on a computer screen.
