Product Development & Design Assistant
We are seeking a creative and motivated Product Development & Design Assistant to join the Mestiza New York team. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate passionate about fashion design and eager to gain hands-on experience in the industry. As a Fashion Design and Production Assistant, you will support our RTW (Ready-to-Wear) team in various tasks related to the creation and manufacturing of Mestiza styles.
Requirements :
Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
Strong knowledge and understanding of clothing construction and techniques.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign) and Excel.
Excellent sketching and technical drawing skills.
Detail-oriented with a strong sense of accuracy and quality.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities :
Collaborate with the Chief Creative Officer, RTW Designer, merchandising team, and factories to develop and produce RTW collections.
Maintain constant communication with the Production Coordinator and factories.
Work with the Production Coordinator to manage on-time sample shipments and meet shipping deadlines for samples and bulk production.
Create and update detailed tech packs for women’s RTW, knits, lounge, and soft accessories throughout the season to ensure accuracy.
Analyze designs to determine required resources and project deadlines.
Produce accurate technical drawings and proto sheets.
Implement design changes and make contingency plans as necessary, providing justifications for adjustments.
Collaborate with the Merchandise team, RTW Designer, and Chief Creative Officer to evaluate all styles during fittings.
Take detailed notes and photos during fittings, and meet with factories as needed to discuss fit notes.
Ensure timely submission of comments for strike-offs, lab dips, and samples.
Provide additional support to the RTW Designer and Chief Creative Officer as needed.
Contribute to print and embellishment design.
Collaborate with the Merchandising and RTW teams on seasonal development, ensuring consistency in colors, prints, and embellishments across factories and product categories.
Establish quality control standards with new vendors and ensure all products meet Mestiza’s packaging guidelines.
Maintain brand integrity through fit continuity, construction standards, and consistent design details that align with the Mestiza brand identity.
Evaluate prototypes and inspect finished products to ensure they are free from defects.
