Job Overview:
Metal Fab Guys is seeking a skilled CAD Technician with a solid working knowledge of SolidWorks and a background in precision sheet metal fabrication. This individual will be responsible for creating, organizing, and deve
loping drawings, performing light design work, and collaborating closely with the manufacturing team. A deep understanding of general manufacturing practices is essential to ensure designs are optimized for fabrication and assembly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize SolidWorks to create 2D and 3D models for precision sheet metal fabrication projects.
- Perform light design work, including modification of existing designs and the development of new components based on project specifications.
- Organize, develop, and maintain detailed engineering drawings for production, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with engineers and fabricators to ensure designs align with manufacturing capabilities and precision standards.
- Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards and company quality specifications.
- Support production teams by reviewing designs for manufacturability and providing guidance on fabrication processes.
- Manage design revisions and documentation, ensuring timely updates to all related stakeholders.
- Maintain an organized workflow to track project progress and ensure on-time delivery of designs and drawings.
- Communicate effectively with team members, providing technical assistance and problem-solving support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for modeling and drawing development.
- Working knowledge of fabrication precision sheet metal processes and techniques.
- Understanding of general manufacturing practices and the ability to apply them to design
- for manufacturability.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail, with a focus on producing high-quality and accurate drawings.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in metal fabrication, is highly preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Solidworks or other CAD software.
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Knowledge of laser cutting, bending, and welding processes as they apply to sheet metal.
- Basic understanding of material properties and how they impact fabrication processes.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree or certification in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment focusing on sheet metal.
Physical Demands:

- Visual acuity to read detailed technical drawings and blueprints.

- Mobility to move between office and shop floor, including standing, walking, and occasional bending.
- Dexterity to handle measuring tools and prototypes if assisting with quality checks.
- Hearing and communication skills to collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and CNC operators in a potentially noisy environment.

Pay: $18.50 - $25.00 per hour
