About METCO, Inc. Founded in 1966, METCO is the largest voluntary school desegregation program in the country. It is the commonwealth’s only program designed to address the long standing racial and economic segregation in our public schools. METCO is a critical asset in our collective effort to close the achievement gap in Mass. Following the passage of the Racial Imbalance Act in 1966, the METCO program provides the opportunity for children from racially segregated schools in Boston and children from isolated suburban schools to learn together in an integrated public school setting. Position Overview We are seeking enrichment specialists who are talented, flexible, culturally competent, and motivated to teach in the METCO 2025 Summer School Program. The program will enroll METCO students in grades K through 6. In this position, you will lead a group of students in different grade levels teaching Arts & Crafts. The Arts & Crafts Specialist is responsible for the growth and development of the Arts & Crafts classes. Specialists must also ensure that the students that they work with are active and engaged throughout the length of class. Our ideal applicant has prior successful experience working with differentiated instruction. Applicants must also have at least 1 year of teaching and/or coaching experience. Summer Arts & Crafts Specialist Duties and Responsibilities Fulfillment of all daily duties are required during weeks 1-4 (July 7th, 2025- August 1st, 2025) of summer school. Monday-Thursday: 3.5 Hours (11AM-2:30PM) weekly meetings on Thursday afternoons from 2:30-3:15 pm, Fridays: 6.5 Hours (8AM-2:30PM) total of 21 hours a week. Attend mandatory program training sessions from July 1-3, 2025 - METCO Summer Program Staff Orientation - In Person Staff must attend weekly meetings on Thursday afternoons from 2:30-3:15 pm Attend all mandatory summer school meetings Develop professional relationships with colleagues, students and families. Create an environment that facilitates positive child development. Prepare Arts & Crafts activities before each class Always supervise students. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all age appropriate activities. Complete necessary reports and attendance sheets Document incidents/accident reports when needed Recess duty is mandatory Attend, chaperone, and supervise all students on all field trips Manage student behavior in the gym or classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures Participate in mandatory weekly check-ins with the principal and instructional coach. Summer Arts & Crafts Enrichment Specialist Requirements and Qualifications At least 1 years or more teaching Arts & Crafts Experience working within a summer learning program Strong communication and leadership skills Strong instructional and classroom management skills Ability to work on an accelerated schedule Outgoing personality Ability to motivate students Ability to adjust Strong organizational skills and attention to details a must Bilingual (Spanish/English) and/or (Haitian Creole/English) preferred Cultural competence (experience and ability to work with diverse populations)
