Associate Principal
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Principal assists the Supervising Principal in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and families to foster excellence, scholarship, creativity, and achievement for all students
.BACKGROUND:
Methuen Public Schools enrolls approximately 7,000 students in a total of five schools: the Comprehensive Grammar School (PK-8); the Marsh Grammar School (PK-8); the Tenney Grammar School (PK-8); the Timony Grammar School (PK-8); and Methuen High School (9-12). As a diverse suburban/urban community designated as a Gateway City, our schools celebrate diversity, while promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all students and families.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed as Principal/Assistant Principal from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (9-12) and SEI Endorsement
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in education from an accredited institution
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience at the high school level
Demonstrated experience as an administrator preferred
Bilingual preferred - Primary languages spoken in the community are: English, Spanish, Arabic, and French.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functions as part of an administrative team responsible for the supervision and leadership of the building
Responsible for the management of designated grade level of students
Works with building administrators to create an optimal learning environment for all students that promotes positive student interactions, learning, and high-quality instruction Implements and enforces a school-wide student disciplinary system with consistency
Upholds laws, school and district policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies
Maintains accurate records and monitors the progress of individual student behavior
Protects confidentiality of records and student information
Supports the development of a culture that builds many opportunities for student voice and decision-making
Attends and supervises after-school, evening, and weekend school-sponsored events and activities
Assigns and supervises teacher supervisory duties
Supports students, families, and faculty with concerns related to behavior, attendance, and grades
Supports and supervises student lunches and transitions, including arrival and dismissal
Attends conferences, workshops and other meetings related to assigned duties
Assumes supervisory and evaluative responsibility for the staff as assigned by the principal
Models non-discriminatory practices
Assists in the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of staff
Manages substitute coverage on a daily basis
Organizes and administers standardized testing for assigned class of students
Maintains regular communication with parents in regard to student discipline, academic progress, and student attendance Interfaces with other school support personnel and with social agencies at the community and state levels
Performs other assignments as designated by the superintendent of schools or the principal
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds is preferred.

REPORTS TO:
Building Principal. The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Methuen Administrators Association (Unit B) Contract.
