TITLE: Supervising Principal, Methuen High School (12-month position)
POSITION SUMMARY: The supervising principal, in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and families, fosters excellence, scholarship, opportunity, and achievement for all students. The supervising principal assumes responsibility for the school's total operation and management and maintains a safe, orderly, and optimal school climate.
BACKGROUND: Methuen Public Schools enrolls approximately 7,000 students in a total of five schools: the Comprehensive Grammar School (PK-8); the Marsh Grammar School (PK-8); the Tenney Grammar School (PK-8); the Timony Grammar School (PK-8); and Methuen High School (9-12). As an urban community designated as a Gateway City, our schools celebrate diversity while promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all students and families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Principal/Assistant Principal (9-12) license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
SEI endorsement
Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
At least 5 years of teaching experience at the high school level
Previous experiences as a high school administrator
Experience overseeing academic programming and evaluating teachers and staff
Understanding of effective instructional strategies and Universal Design for Learning
Knowledge of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices
Ability to lead a team and develop and execute plans
Ability to maintain positive relationships and build consensus
Highly effective communication skills
Bilingual preferred - Primary languages spoken in the community: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole.
Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads the high school administrative team and is responsible for the supervision and maintenance of the building
Collaborates with district and school leaders regularly
Creates a learning environment for all students that promotes positive student interactions, learning, and high-quality instruction
Implements and enforces a school-wide student disciplinary system with consistency
Upholds laws, school and district policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies
Annually reviews and presents MHS Program of Studies
Maintains accurate records and monitors the progress of individual student behavior
Protects confidentiality of records and student information
Supports the development of a culture that builds opportunities for student voice and decision-making
Attends and supervises after-school, evening, and weekend school-sponsored events and activities
Assumes supervisory and evaluative responsibility for faculty and staff
Oversees the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of staff
Maintains regular communication with parents and families
Interfaces with other school support personnel and with social agencies at the community and state levels
Supports the strategy for district improvement.
Represents and promotes Methuen High School with pride
Engages with families and community members and groups (e.g., site council, Boosters, Band Parents Association)
Fulfills other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
