Description and Requirements
The Associate Director role is part of the MII team and is responsible for the management of investment portfolios, including collateral accounts, supporting a variety of MetLife general account products. The Associate Director will partner closely with representatives from the US Business segment, MetLife Investment Management (MIM), and MII.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner closely with US Business representatives to understand monthly collateral requirements associated with a variety of US business products
- Identify the need to deposit / withdraw collateral from accounts and/or rebalance as necessary to maintain compliance with approved guidelines
- Proactively seek opportunities to optimize use of collateral across entities / portfolios to ensure the most efficient use
- As needed, initiate and monitor asset transfers with MII Investment Operations team for purposes or rebalancing and maintaining compliance
- Liaise with MIM Insurance Asset Management (IAM) team to implement new business investment strategies and oversee portfolio rotations from premium receipt to ultimate target
- Partner with MIM and MII Legal Departments to understand asset-specific eligibility for collateral posting, including public and private fixed income classes
- Recommend changes to investment guidelines, as needed, through the ALM governance process and through collaboration with US Business team
- Assist MII team in the development of investment strategies, hedging approaches, investment guidelines, and materials supporting annual Plan process
- Provide guidance on potential attractive asset needs in support of new business pricing
- Present and obtain approval through ALM Working Groups, ALM Committees, etc of shifts in new business investment / pricing strategy
- Lead development of and/or present investment-related presentation materials to senior pricing approval committees
- Design hedging strategies in connection with new business opportunities and partner with MIM on implementation
- Partner with MIM on evaluation of asset-in-kind proposals and asset-in-kind onboarding
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
- Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience using BlackRock/ Aladdin and Bloomberg systems
- Asset-liability management experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build partnerships and work in a team environment
- Excellent communication and prioritization skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, less structured environment
- MBA or CFA preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Math, or related field
- 6 years of work experience at an insurance company or in financial services industry preferred
