Position Summary
The Head of Tanker Heavy Maintenance is a highly experienced aviation mechanic who oversees a team of technicians during extensive aircraft maintenance procedures, often referred to as "heavy checks" which involve thorough inspections, repairs, and component replacements on an aircraft, typically requiring a significant amount of time and specialized facilities at a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility; essentially, they are the leader of a team responsible for complex aircraft overhauls
Essential Functions Statement:
- Ensure company aircraft are airworthy and available to conduct revenue operations.
- Perform pre-induction planning that ensures maintenance requirements are created and managed accurately. Providing a comprehensive view of all maintenance requirements. Facilitates the notification of updated maintenance requirements.
- Ensure collaboration between Tanker Technical Services, Continuing Regulatory Compliance, and Supply Chain Management.
- Monitor and communicate current and projected maintenance status of company aircraft to company management.
- Manage 3rd party MROs to ensure maintenance activities are meeting company standards, schedule, and performance requirements per the contract.
- Ability to understand technical contractual language and derive the implications.
Competency Statements
Team management:
- Lead and coordinate a team of Tech Reps/mechanics, assigning tasks, ensuring quality control, and managing the overall progress of a heavy maintenance project.
- Must adhere to strict aviation regulations and airworthiness directives when performing heavy maintenance checks.
Complex maintenance tasks:
- Responsibilities may include managing engine replacements, structural repairs, extensive corrosion control, major avionics upgrades, and significant modifications to an aircraft.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of aircraft systems, structures, and maintenance procedures, particularly related to major component overhauls and complex repairs.
- Ensuring that all documentation provided to the Metrea records department regarding the aircraft Maintenance/ Delivery is complete and free of, omissions, and obvious errors.
Regulatory compliance:
- Must adhere to strict aviation regulations and airworthiness directives when performing heavy maintenance checks.
- Ensure compliance with company inspection program, applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, airworthiness directives, and company policies.
- Prioritize fleet maintenance requirements.
- Formulate short and long-term maintenance department plans for company approval.
- Plan and coordinate the fleet maintenance schedule, assign maintenance tasking, and manage maintenance activities of department personnel as well as 3rd party maintenance providers.
- Ensure maintenance-related documentation is complete, accurate, accessible, and maintained in accordance with company policies.
- Manage a continuous improvement program for company maintenance practices and policies.
- Maintain a working relationship with outside support entities and regulatory authorities.
- Manage other related company initiatives as requested.

Required Education and Experience
Education:
Experience:
- Experience maintaining large transport fixed-wing aircraft is required, 10 years
- Experience maintaining KC-135 or KC-10 aircraft (Preferred)
- Experience managing multiple aircraft is required
- Experience managing a Heavy Maintenance team is required: 7 years
- FAA A&P certificate is required
- FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) is preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Computer Skills

- Must be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance.
- Must have good command of the English language, oral and written

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
