What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substation Project Manager position at Metric Geo?
Metric GEO are helping a well respected engineering firm find an experienced Project Manager to lead substation projects. This is a great chance to take charge of complex, multi-disciplined projects from start to finish, ensuring they stay on track and within budget. You’ll be overseeing everything from safety and quality to client relations, team coordination, and risk management across Design-Only, EPC, Construction Management, and Program Management projects.
This role is based in Phoenix, AZ. Relocation support may be available for the right candidate.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Leading project teams and ensuring the successful delivery of projects on time and within budget.
- Coordinating all aspects of the project, including safety, quality, procurement, engineering, and construction.
- Developing and tracking project schedules, managing costs, and handling any scope changes that come up.
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients, managing everything from project planning to budget and schedule control.
- Managing the RFP process, contract negotiations, and vendor relationships.
- Overseeing risk management and project performance, making sure we’re meeting all contractual obligations.
- Leading and guiding internal teams and subcontractors to ensure high-quality work and safety standards.
- Building new client relationships and identifying business opportunities.
- Providing support and mentorship to junior team members.
- Staying on top of company safety policies and making sure everyone is following industry regulations.
What We’re Looking For:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or something similar.
- At least 7 years’ experience in project management, ideally within energy, transmission & distribution, or construction.
- Solid track record of managing large projects and controlling costs and risks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to solve problems quickly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software (for scheduling, document control, and cost tracking).
- Ability to handle fast-paced environments and tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
