Our Award-Winning Client, a nationally recognized leader in aluminum extrusion, is seeking a Category Manager – Subcontracting (Outsourced Manufacturing) to lead procurement efforts for external vendors specializing in surface treatment (anodizing, coating) and fabrication services. This role is a key member of the central procurement team, reporting to senior leadership and working closely with teams across supply chain, operations, finance, and sales.
Operating in multiple locations across North America, this position offers a hybrid work structure, requiring in-office presence a few days per week while allowing for remote flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Strategy & Execution:
- Develop and implement category strategies utilizing industry insights, supplier knowledge, and procurement best practices.
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives, ensuring optimal sourcing solutions while maintaining high standards for service, capacity, and compliance.
- Prioritize internal manufacturing capacity (Make) before considering outsourcing (Buy), ensuring optimal plant utilization before seeking external subcontractors.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with procurement, supply chain, operations, finance, and sales teams to support business objectives.
Supplier Relationship Management & Negotiation:
- Oversee strategic sourcing events, ensuring a competitive vendor environment for subcontracting services.
- Conduct data-driven negotiations using benchmarks, supplier analysis, and cost models to establish long-term vendor agreements.
- Develop and implement Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and enforce performance improvement plans for vendors failing to meet expectations.
- Equip local procurement teams with negotiation tools to effectively manage subcontracting partnerships.
Cost Optimization & Process Improvement:
- Lead Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reduction initiatives, working with stakeholders to optimize category spending.
- Continuously assess internal manufacturing capabilities vs. outsourcing (Make vs. Buy) to ensure cost-effective and strategic decision-making.
- Monitor category performance, tracking key metrics to drive continuous improvement.
Technical & Analytical Expertise:
- Utilize Should-Cost Modeling, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and ROI analysis to inform strategic decisions.
- Leverage Microsoft Office, Oracle, SAP, and video conferencing tools for procurement operations.
- Apply advanced analytics to manage complex spreadsheets and financial models.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferred focus in Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, or related field).
- 5 years of experience (preferably 10 years) in procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, supply chain, or plant operations.
- Expertise in subcontracting (outsourced manufacturing) procurement.
- Proven ability to lead projects and drive cost-saving initiatives.

- Strong background in change management and supplier engagement.
- CPSM, CPSD, or C.P.M. certifications preferred.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% as needed.
Candidate Profile:
- This is not a buyer role – we are looking for a strategic leader with experience in outsourced manufacturing (fabrication, surface treatment, etc.).
- Must have a strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and drive strategic decision-making.
- Ability to develop, implement, and manage supplier strategies with a results-driven approach.
- Strong project management experience, ensuring seamless execution of procurement initiatives.
