Job Title: Director of Emergency Services

Position Summary:
The Director of Emergency Services oversees the clinical and operational functions of the Emergency Department (ED). This leadership role focuses on ensuring excellence in patient care, optimizing resources, managing budgets, and fostering a high-performing team. The Director works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and other administrative leaders to align departmental goals with the organization’s broader objectives, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team, including the Nurse Manager, 35 full-time employees, and 15 PRN staff.
- Ensure 24/7 staffing and operational coverage while working primarily weekday day shifts.
- Oversee daily ED operations, ensuring compliance with clinical policies, staffing protocols, and patient flow metrics.
- Develop and manage the annual budget, controlling expenses and optimizing resources.
- Champion professional growth through training, competency programs, and performance evaluations.
- Drive quality improvement, safety initiatives, and overall departmental performance.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and preparation for audits and inspections.
- Collaborate with the CNO and leadership teams to effectively communicate departmental goals and achievements.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or a compact state (non-compact state nurses must obtain NC licensure before start date).
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications by the American Heart Association.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role (Manager level or above) within an Emergency Department.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Advanced degree (MSN, MHA, or equivalent) preferred.
- Experience: Familiarity with community hospital Emergency Department settings.
