Maintenance Unit Supervisor
Location: Davenport, Iowa, United States
Role Overview
In this leadership role, you will be responsible for guiding a unionized maintenance team by providing direction, technical troubleshooting, and hands-on maintenance expertise. Your primary function is to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely execution of both planned and unexpected maintenance activities. Rotating 12-hour shifts, you will alternate between day and night shifts per work cycle.
Key Responsibilities & Technical Skills
- Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Oversee and mentor mechanical craft personnel, acting as a critical resource for maintenance guidance and problem-solving.
- Allocate work assignments fairly, ensuring tasks are prioritized based on operational criticality while adhering to union guidelines.
- Coordinate crewing arrangements for both planned and unscheduled maintenance needs.
- Operational Management & Safety:
- Execute both scheduled and emergency maintenance tasks to sustain productivity and reliability.
- Foster a safe work environment by leading individual safety discussions and conducting job-specific safety reviews.
- Ensure operational excellence by applying root cause analysis and rapid resolution techniques in collaboration with your team.
- Technical Troubleshooting & Process Improvement:
- Utilize your expertise in mechanical and electrical systems to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and training to enhance the skills of mechanical and electrical craft employees.
- Encourage collaboration among team members to address and mitigate production disruptions swiftly.
- Cross-Department Coordination:
- Work closely with various manufacturing personnel to ensure that maintenance objectives align with production goals.
- Actively engage in continuous improvement initiatives, contributing ideas that enhance operational effectiveness and safety.
Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
- At least 2 years of direct supervisory experience with proven leadership in a maintenance or manufacturing environment.
- Exceptional candidates will have prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting, a working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (ABS), and familiarity with human resources or industrial relations policies.
