Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the Training Division Captain, the Field Training Officer provides field training to employees and teaches in the classroom. The Field Training Officer will demonstrate the ability to share his/her extensive experience and knowledge in a non-intimidating manner to encourage employees to achieve the high standards necessary. The Field Training Officer understands the constant evolution of EMS professionals while remaining current in the industry trends and improved methods of accomplishing quality patient care. The Field Training Officer will serve as a mentor, role model, and educational resource to all employees.
Minimum Qualifications
· Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
· Minimum of 6 Month experience in the field of EMS health care or equivalent.
· Certified as a Colorado State EMS Provider with IV Endorsement.
· Must be eligible to function as an emergency medical vehicle operator in accordance with Colorado Regulations and City/Departmental policy.
· Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history.
· Maintain Colorado Certification Emergency Medical Technician- Basic with IV Endorsement.
· Must maintain AHA Certification for CPR /BLS provider.
Job Requirements:
- Must be able to work rotating shifts (days/evenings/overnights) including weekends and holidays and be available to work overtime to meet operational needs if needed.
- Ability to twist, pull, push, and lift at least 100lbs using proper lifting techniques.
- This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination.
- Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on the position assigned and can vary based on day-day operations.
- Must maintain professional certificates and affiliations as determined by the agency.
Reports To:
Reports directly to EMS Field Lieutenants.
Works closely and coordinates with other EMS Field Training Officers.
Responsibilities:
The Field Training Officer (BLS), in addition to the normal duties of the provider’s certification level, assists in development and training of field personnel. The Specialty of Field Training Officer provides training and professional development to enhance the performance of EMS staff by assisting in coordinating new hire orientation, training for new employees, remediation of current employees and training on new equipment. This position requires the person to stay up to date in local protocol and work continuously with the assigned Field Officers for the progression and continued development of training programs. This work requires knowledge of adult education/training in a variety of formats – classroom and virtual, ability to develop and instruct training/educational sessions. This work requires comprehensive knowledge in basic and advanced emergency medical care, Incident Command System, basic rescue procedures, hazardous materials response, emergency vehicle operations, patient handling techniques, Critical Incident Stress Management, extensive knowledge of the geography of Manatee County (or the ability to learn within six months) and the strong ability to direct the work of peers.
